Default pc gamers, come inside, suggestions wanted...

ok, so here's the deal. i havent gamed on hardly anthing in a very long time. the last two games i played religously was original Rainbow Six and original Doom. I am looking for some suggestions on whats good thats out now that would be comparible in "style" to the previously mentioned games.

I went to the store today to pickup a sweet deal on a 22" flat panel LCD monitor and while there, i took a walk over to the game section and saw that there are MANY titles out now. and without having something there to see what the impressions were of each game i didnt really want to spend the money on a game that was a complete pile of ----.

anyone got any thoughts?

well, i have....

Pentium Dual Core E4500 (2.2ghz, 2mb l2 Cache, 800mhz FSB)
2gb of Corsair DDR2 XMS2 ram (2x1gb)
e-GeForce 7300 GS 256MB Video Card
22" Acer AL2216W

like i said, its been awhile since i have done any gaming on the pc, so i am not quite sure how good the vid card is and how well it will work with a lot of the newer games out.

hardware doesnt exsist at this moment to fully run crysis. 3 8800gtx's in 3way sli still cant keep up with all the eye candy on so yeah your 7300gs doesnt stand a chance http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=3183

you can try UT3 though, download the demo and try it out. it looks great and doesnt require a rediculous computer.

UT3 looks to much like Halo. I wasnt a fan of that.

as for Crysis, i was looking at that and it seemed somewhat entertaining, but i saw the pc specs as...

Minimum Processor Required Pentium 2.4GHz (Intel Pentium 3.2GHz for Windows Vista)
Minimum RAM Required 1GB (1.5GB for Windows Vista)
Minimum Hard Drive Space 12GB
Peripheral Devices Required DVD-ROM Drive, Sound Card, 3D Video Card with 256MB Video Memory, SVGA Display
Supported Video Card Chipsets NVIDIA GeForce 6800 GT or Better; ATi Radeon 9800 Pro (Radeon X800 Pro for Vista) or Better

so i can assume that my pc could play it, but i would have to lower the settings on the game to play?

they are trying to play it with all the highest settings on a 30 inch monitor with 2560x1600 resolution. there is hardware that can play it on full settings on a normal sized monitor and resolution, say 1600x1200

if you meet the minumum specs for the game you should be able to play it but it will have to be at low resolutions and low quality. the resolutions they tested in the link i posted was 1900x1200 wich is the resolution of a 24" LCD not a 30.

what hardware is there that can play crysis at its highest setting at 1680x1200? the link i posted was only running 1900x1200 and with 3 of the biggest cards out today running in 3way sli it was still only playable at the second highest quality.
