I've been charging people the old 3% and realize I've been short my asking price on all my parts after being paid. Finally took the time to calculate them. Turns out to be 4.2% now. Either that, or paypal's ------- with me.

You realize, paypal makes money when you pay someone, then the same company (ebay) makes more money from the same purchase when you list and sell it, then when that money is spent again they make more money.

I'm sorry, but I fail to see how it costs paypal 4.2% per transaction for the computer to subtract money from one account and add it to another. Electricity doesn't cost that much.

It does sound un-reasonable but only to a certain level.

It`s not about how much it cost them to transfer that chunk of money for you. Its about how much you are WILLING to pay to have the $ transfered.
If you are willing to use to it, you are willing to paid up to their requirments.

If they charged something like a nickel per transaction i'd have no problems with it. That would still make them a killer profit... and be reasonable too

dude paypal is very far pricing wise. Look at what credit card companies charge very similar




On a side note its never been a flat 3 percent. It depends where the money came from savings,paypal account funds or credit card

Did that change recently? Back when I was using Paypal they would charge 3% plus $0.50 per transaction no matter how the buyer paid. If you're not an "upgraded" member you don't have to pay, but then your limits are low and you can't accept credit card payments.

Also, what do you mean by what credit cards charge? I've never been charged for using my credit card....only by Paypal. :l

When a seller accepts a credit card payments the cc company takes a percentage of the charge.

as long as you are a premiere member on paypal, you will be taxed. regardless if the payment is paypal funds, checking, e-check, or credit card. As soon as you accept one credit card payment, you are fucked.

Yeah, but that has nothing to do with me. That's the business who pays those fees and those fees are a complete right-off for the business. Paypal is passing the fee(and then some) onto the seller and still getting to write it off. If the buyer pays with Paypal funds or a checking account they still pay the same fee, which IMO is crap. My bank doesn't charge Paypal a fee for a checking transfer and there shouldn't be a fee if I sent cash from my Paypal balance....or at least not that big of a fee. I hope Paypal and Ebay go under, but that will never happen. :3

I don't know what you're trying to say boost. You don't pay extra paypal fees when purchasing something, the seller does.

You don't pay the credit card fees when you use your credit card at a store, the seller does.

yeah but i think some people out there think that using an e-check avoids these fees. When I get e-checks I'm like wtf!? it doesn't help either of us, I have to wait for my money and you have to wait longer for your product. I have a PayPal account for if you wanna use e-checks, lemme know ahead of time so I could forward it to you and I save of the fees! /short rant

yeah sucks to, just started this year. So from the beginning of 2007, count your sales. Sucks too cause I'm already almost there :-\

Im very sketchy of echecks. The 2 times I got dicked over by paypal was both echecks. I make it clear of course the usual time along with another week or so

I get 0% APR on my credit cards if I pay them off monthly, so I'm babied in that aspect.

But I don't get charged by my bank for using my debit card, as in charging it or pulling money out, or transferring money to paypal. I'm used to no charges on anything.

They are trying to pass a law. It wont happen. They also tried to get people to pay taxes over state lines via ebay/internet sales for years



Hell most people I know sell well over 5g+ a year on ebay and just sell old stuff they don use anymore

I sold 10k in a month or two on ebay, and don't plan on claiming it. Why should I have to and how will they know about the money? It wasn't even my paypal account, was an account of a close friend.

WEll the problem arises in how much do you buy and loss money on selling and then have to slap tax on it. Most stuff on ebay is old stuff people have had and moved on and using that old part to buy a new part. The law wont pass it will make things way to compicated and people who use ebay/amazon/yahoo auctions ect will cease and a large part of our economy is gone

well from the looks of it 2007 is clear. 2008 well maybe a different story. Sell now tax free. 2008 if this passes ebay/paypal/amazon etc will be bankrupt within 5 years

I am a licensed merchant that accepts CC's directly and I pay 2.3% in fees. On top of that when a bogus chareback is placed I fight them myself and I have had only 2 in 5 years. How many disputes have you had with paypal in the past month?
