Re: ok so trading parts for a rebuild plus springs
Is he replacing valve seals and/or doing a valve job?
Honing the block?
Is he pulling the engine and installing it?
Head or block getting surfaced? Machine work probably not included. Measurements should be checked against warpage specs.
Trying to get the picture of the services he is providing since you are letting some pricey parts go.
To most, a rebuild is just bearing, rings, main seals. If that is the case then keep your parts

well, i dont have the money to take it to a shop to get rebuilt, also im not really paying him... im giving him parts
hes gonna do the whole thing whiterice. hone the cylinders, tank the head and resurface it, pull the engine and install it, everything. even a lil transmission work

Oh yeah, and there is no such thing as 'a lil transmission work' transmission work isnt easy and nothing is simple. He might change the oil if youre lucky.

Re: ok so trading parts for a rebuild plus springs
My friend Joe is very experienced with auto repair and metal fabrication. He has a shop and does all of my welding and fab work. I supply him with whattever he needs that I have to possibly offer. I learn as we do the work. I speak to him daily with questions and we go back and forth with suggestions and ideas. I also try to give good parts away that I am not using, I believe that "easy come, easy go" theory. So, I dont think you are getting a short end of the stick.
