OK ok, who here has NOT blown their engine?

Ok, just a quick poll, who here has boosted and NOT blown anything in the bottom end? Been seeing so many 'blown up' threads I thought it would be interesting to see how many have not blown any pistons/rods. Or whatever.

Re:OK ok, who here has NOT blown their engine?

Been boosted for close to half a year now. It's not a daily driver so it doesn't have many miles on it at all, pluss it's been through 2 setups already. But trust me, when I do drive it, I drive it hard. :D

Re:OK ok, who here has NOT blown their engine?

i blew my n/a bp5 motor in my car before i got my jdm bpt motor. 180,000 and it desided the valve seals had seen enuf and the head gasket went out the same day. i drove it 3 hours to a friends house to swap motors. burnt a gallon of coolant and what ever wasn in my radiator before that along with more then a quart of oil.

when i finally got to his house it poured out milk brown exhaust (even tho the car was turned off) for 15+ minutes. smelt like a sewer plant.

Re:OK ok, who here has NOT blown their engine?

boosted for like 4 months now, daily driver at 9psi... sometimes on uber sometimes on fmu... depends on problems. drive it hard every day and its bone stock with over 190k miles... still running strong. oh yah n i forgot to change my oil for the past 4k miles... and plugs to ???

DutchPug 11-17-2004 04:20 AM

Re:OK ok, who here has NOT blown their engine?

The first year boosting i've blown three engines. The engine in my daily driver is holding 17 psi (stock block) for about 13 months now. Damn I kind of forgot the feeling of blowing one ;D

Cray91 11-17-2004 04:21 AM

Re:OK ok, who here has NOT blown their engine?

over half of the posts are of ppl blowing motors.

baldur 11-17-2004 04:26 AM

Re:OK ok, who here has NOT blown their engine?

Well mine has been boosted since january last year, started at 10psi with a small turbo, now at 15psi with a bigger turbo.
It's been above 25psi in short bursts. Only thing that has broken is one headgasket that went when the wastegate pressure line cracked, pegging the boost gauge so I have no idea how high it went, I'd guess it was above 30psi. The kickback when I went off the throttle was so powerful it blew the intake hose off the turbo. I was using speed density for fuel and MAF for ignition back then so the ignition went over advanced, killing the head gasket.
Oh, and it's a daily driver, raped daily in all gears.

davcivic 11-17-2004 06:05 AM

Re:OK ok, who here has NOT blown their engine?

Me, but I didn't daily drive the turbo civic, so I didn't really rape it or anything.

Re:OK ok, who here has NOT blown their engine?

I've been boosted for almost a year now, stock D16a6 with more than 170,000 miles. ran the fmu for about a month or two and was running lean like a motha f****!! it would bog and misfire everywhere. changed to the SAFC and 450's and has been running fine ever since! runs hard and spins tires as soon as boost hits! this a REAL DAILY DRIVER @ 10-12psi (depending on spikes) and has plenty of miles on it. only thing thats gone out was my water pump. going turboedit in about a week so things should get better... 8)

hybrdcivic95 11-17-2004 11:47 AM

Re:OK ok, who here has NOT blown their engine?

got about 7k boosted miles now a completley stock z6, fmu and stock injectors at 7psi...nothing wrong at all, but now that i post this im sure ill sling a rod through the hood tonight ;D, of course its in the process of being sold so i havent been getting on it at all for that fear

Re:OK ok, who here has NOT blown their engine?

0-200k miles = no boost
200k-211k miles = 10-13psi
211k-212k miles = 15psi

Its okay to hate me ;D

Re:OK ok, who here has NOT blown their engine?

Basically what it comes down to is if you have a turbo Honda and you haven't blown a motor at least once than your a ----- cause your not pushing it hard enough.

Im no ------- -----!!!

My ---- held up after a few runs at 12psi. 8)
Took the kit off and did a compression test and it came up to 160 across.

baldur 11-17-2004 06:07 PM

Re:OK ok, who here has NOT blown their engine?

Well I'm going to keep adding power until it blows for some other cause than detonation. If you blow a motor by detonation then you're doing something wrong. If it blows from too much torque for the crank to handle, then it's just time for an upgrade.
Currently what I got is stock motor with pistons I machined for lower compression.

biggmike 11-17-2004 06:38 PM

Re:OK ok, who here has NOT blown their engine?

not boosted yet but ive blown 2 engines so far. ;D
