You do realize you have that completly backwards right? In the winter you should be running a lighter weight, due to the fact that as oil gets colder it gets thicker.

i`ve heard even at 120mph you are suppose to stay at the slow lane correct?

doesnt matter.

i ran 20w50 in my integra to try and get a handle on my oil control issues, i run 10w40 in turbo cars :)

yes in most cases.

you use synthetic in the winter? synthetic is hard on the engine during start up, and it takes longer to warm up since its cold as balls out.

then again, its probably all good if you let your motor completely warm up before you drive it, eh?

REAL synthetic is harder on a cold engine? its molicualls (sp) break up quicker in cold weather so you get full oil pressure faster. It will aways out preform dino oil in extream cold or extream heat ;) Make sure we are talking 100% man made synthetic though not dino oil converted to synthetic(90% are this), yes there is a huge difference.

Re: Oil viscosity and weight

now for brands of oils. which synthetic is company is better? I used mobil one, but a lot of people say castrol is better, how about Amsiol? royal puple? I cant get those here, but maybe I can get my brother to smuggle some to me. ;D . the only 2 synthec I can get here are mobil1 and castrol. it sucks

from what i've heard royal purple and mobil are the top dogs

how do i know its 100%? is the 90% the "Synthetic Blend" stuff? i heard its mucho trasho, might as well get synthetic if your gonna spend the extra couple bucks

since its good in winter, i think i'll definately switch to synthetic once im boosted :y

Re: Oil viscosity and weight

apparently motul is one of the best

Like I said at -20 degrees, your engine will start up like if it was 80 degrees if you use synthetic oil.

Re: Oil viscosity and weight

5w30 = easy starts, but at 200-220 F oil temp, they are the same weight (30)...........

10w30 = too thick at cold temps, 5w30 gets oil to the bearings faster.

Shall we have school on how to decode the oil viscosity ratings?
