O2 Sensor Seized, help!
Ok i bought a std manifold yesterday at the wreckers, and i can't get the old oxygen sensor off. It is TOTALLY STUCK on there!!!! I'v tried WD40, liquid wrench, a breaker bar, pipe wrench, and even heating it with a torch. I'm assuming the thread is not a reverse one or anything, just your normal thread right, countercloackwise to loosen(i know stupid question)I'm thinking i should just throw it away and get find another manifold at another wrecker. Any suggestions to how i can get the O2 sensor off??
Thanks alot |
Re:O2 Sensor Seized, help!
why not leave it in

Re:O2 Sensor Seized, help!
The O2 sensor was on there when i got it from the junkyard. The sensor is full of carbon crap, which will prob give bad readings.

Re:O2 Sensor Seized, help!
i would break that bitch and drill it out hehehehehe , just don't ---- up the threads ;)

Re:O2 Sensor Seized, help!
hahahahaha...
I had the same problem. I just cut of the top and drilled the thing out. And if you damage the threads just drill a biger hole, fill it with some rod weld or something and make new threads. |
Re:O2 Sensor Seized, help!
I drilled out the first one i had.... the second one broke the O2 sensor socket adapter i bought.... and the third time i just got some of those vice grip pliers... tightend it to the o2 sensor.. doused the sensor with wd40... and started pounding it with a rubber mallot untill slowly but surely it started moving.
remember to use anti seize compound on it when you install it, so this wont ever happen to you again. |
Re:O2 Sensor Seized, help!
u try heating up around the 02 sensor. dont heat the sensor.
i use a huge adjustable wrench. if that doesnt work add a pipe. itll come out.. |
Re:O2 Sensor Seized, help!
Hey, thanks guys! But yeah, yesterday i bought a 3 foot extension, and the dam thing still wouldn't come out. So i guess its time to drill that bitch out!
And another question for ya guys.... Theres a crack starting at the bottom flange and it goes up about 2 inches. Should i just put some of that brass coloured crack filler for headers on it? Or is it junk.....i hope not because i paid 40 bucks for the manifold. Thanks! |
Re:O2 Sensor Seized, help!
try and get some kroil.. its the best stuff ever made. way way better than WD40
mine were stuck on too, but i used some kroil and a huge wrench, i was able to get them out just using my feet to hold the manifold. but if you could put it on a car or in a vice it would help so much |
Re:O2 Sensor Seized, help!
So if you drill out the O2 sensor and have to retap the threads what size tap do you use? Are all O2 sensors the same? I realy need to know, I have a stuck O2 that needs replaceing and I would like to get what I need before I start so my daily driver(91 Civic Si) wont be down long.

Re:O2 Sensor Seized, help!
Hmm...
I'v never heard of kroil before?? I'm guessing its prob at napa or sumthin, i'll check! I think theres that wire spring stuff that are used for filling stripped threads on the head for spark plugs. I have never personally used them before, but i guess you could use some of that stuff if you could get some that fit the o2 sensor hole??Not really sure on that! |
Re:O2 Sensor Seized, help!
i can't remember where i got the cans i have of it.
kroil is old school, and still is the best. |
