they are good for functional strength and balance as well as speed. bodyweight exercises work multiple muscle groups at once, whereas weight training tends to isolate muscles. actually, it would probably be easier to get toned using weights. the muscles produced with bodyweight vs weights are different. weights will make you bigger at the cost of speed. kinda like powerlifting vs bodybuilding... bodybuilders are bigger, but powerlifters are usually stronger. everybody has their own preferences though. i just dont want to get too big and lose my speed/stamina. like i said, try doing 1-arm pullups and then tell me how ----- bodyweight exercises are...lol. its nothing compared to lifting huge amounts of weight, but its still nothing to look down upon.

yeah but how much do you weigh now? if youre like 225+ thats pretty impressive, most really big guys are slow. i weigh around 190(almost no fat) and am 6'1", and cant really afford to gain too much more weight. for me, the most i would want to weigh is around 210, anything more i cant see how it would be possible to maintain speed.

thats why you do both. I do bodybuilding and weightlifting. I realized i've lost me speed since high school since i wasn't in football or track anymore i just lifted weights. but i run and do aerobics along with body building and i'm much faster now then when i was 16. Im' 5'9 1/2 5'10 and weight 195 pounds. i would like to get to 200 or 210 as well but i'll be really stocky. :-\

i'm 5'10 200lbs. a little more body fat than i would like, but i've only been back at the gym for about 3 mos. and trying to get bigger and trying to lose body fat at the same time, don't usually work too well, but i just can't go to the gym and lift light weight and do cardio, i try, but i just find my self lifting my normal amounts :P
