Frank, what kind did you make? Right now i am working on converting a standard half barrel into a big brew kettle for mashing and boiling.

I've thought about making my own beer but doubt it'd be as good as stuff I can buy, so don't. I did do a "how to make moonshine" project in 9th grade though.

Its really not that hard. Its just like baking but you need to be very sanitary or else wild yeast or organisms will get to the wort before the yeast does and youll end up with some nasty ----. After i finish my degree in mechanical engineering in a year i plan to go to the siebel institute of technology's master brewing program. 6 weeks in Chicago then 5 weeks in Munich. Hopefully work for one of the big breweries for a couple years and then open a microbrewery in the midwest.
Unfortunately, there is going to be a shortage of hops in the near future so some smaller breweries are going to be hurting.

UC-Davis and Seibel are the best. I am leaning towards Seibel just because its closer (Chicago). They have the whole program layed out on their website.

theres a place about an hour from me that basically lets a laymen walk in and brew their own beer. they got a recipee book and you just pick out what you want to make, they provide the ingredients and all the equipment and then store it for fermentation. its a good time and exposes people to the art of making beer without feeling overwhelmed.
open a place like that and youll make some money, they are always busy...
