new rules regarding gas and shit, wtf is CAFE?!?

New rules will force the car kings to shift their focus. Revised CAFE standards require automakers to raise the average mileage of their car and truck fleets to 35 mpg by 2020. Proposed pollution standards in the U.S. and Europe may force even more dramatic increases. And if California wins the right in court to regulate global-warming emissions, you might just kiss your super-powered car goodbye — at least those that rely solely on gasoline.

---- California. Just cause they have the largest population state in the US doesn't mean I should have to do what they say.

The issue is, cars get basically the same mpgs on average as they did 30 years ago. 30 years of R&D and yet Honda Civics still get around 30mpg. The market doesn't even offer any solutions for people who want to have high fuel economy. The best you are going to find at a reasonable price is 30ish mpgs which is a joke. I don't necessarily believe in the government telling private business what to do, but I also believe private business has to show reasonable progress. The automotive industry has not even tried to put out more fuel efficient vehicles and that is why they are getting hit with this. Basically what they are trying to do is get car companies to stop making SUVs so people can buy smaller cars and feel safer because they don't have to worry about 4000lbs cars while they are in their 2000lbs car. Bitch all day, but the automotive industry knew it was coming and did very little to make a smooth transition. Instead they decided to capitalize on it while they could.

People do want smaller cars. They just don't feel safe in them going 75mph next to a 4500lbs SUV. That is where a lot of the issue lies. If you don't believe me, ask anyone why they don't want to drive around in a small car. I guarantee most will say they feel they are unsafe because of big cars around them and they are afraid they won't be able to keep up on the highway.
