New project since NE aint gonna happen

Well its been hot over here an i want to get out on the water.Dont want one of them small boats so i have been searching.Found this boat locally an it had a new engine 1 1/2 ago an it was at the everett marina. Checked it out an it needed some polishing an it would be good to go. When i meet the guy he said it just need wiring thats why it wouldnt start. So i got my trusty jump pack an the good ole power probe an jumpered the starter make sure she runs.Nope engine froz solid. He just spent 5k an used the boat once an then dad had a heart attack an so he never went out in it again. Just want to sell it now asking 5k with everything in it Crab pots an down riggers an so forth.
He was devistated when i told him the engine is shot i offered 2500. I have like 6 sbc engines sitting in my garage they would go right in. I ran the numbers an its either a 302/327/350 so i will just replace it with a 300hp version so she will get up an go..

He called next day an said its yours if you still want it.So off to the bank an now its mine.

I have attached a few pics its a 27ft bayliner with a fly bridge an complete restoration inside no 80`s orange curtain an seats covers here.

For starters heres how they move them i was in awe

The volvo penta 280 outdrive wont hold up to the torque that a small t3 turbo would put out.I already thougt of it. Theres a lot of room in there....

Badass Ted, Thats soo cool you ended up getting it, especially for that price! I'm going to predict some good times on the SS Casey Anne... or maybe we should just call it the SS Stabbin or NogCraft ;)

Re: New project since NE aint gonna happen

about a year ago i was driving by the kenmore boat storage and saw some guy trying to take a boat across the bothell everett highway with a forklift. He had some custom hitch pushing a boat across the busy street. This guy lost the boat and it started to pick up speed and scared the ---- out of this lady in her SUV. The guys was shitting his pants in the forklift cause he was trying to catch this boat and trailer with the forks. on his 3rd attempt he got the boat hitched about 15feet from this lady's SUV.

That boatlift looks alot safer then what i saw. ;D

Re: New project since NE aint gonna happen

if the motor is a 327 just sell it you can get a grand for it if its good... may as well swap whatever carb you put on it for a 2 barrel you don't need a 4 barrel carb its just wasted gas for an extra 5-10hp. and putting in a lightweight honda powerplant will give you more power, without the break ---- torque loads.

Cadracer 08-08-2006 04:32 AM

Re: New project since NE aint gonna happen

:o Dad you sound like my dad you dont need a 4bbl on it..lol Well the update it i got the motor out an tore down. All but on piston cam out of it.Its stuck in ther big time.
lets just say the only thing i used of it was the valve covers an the timing cover an flywheel an hub for the out drive.Every thing else got replaced.

Was probably a weak 350 at that anyway. The replacement should do good.
350 ci bored .40 over
GM x rods resized with arp rod bolts
Flat top cast pistons cast rings
full hyd roller retrofit cam 272 duration .500 lift
World product 67cc S/R torqurer heads with 2.02 1.6 exhaust (Old turbo 350 heads)
8in balancer
Fully balanced assy
7qt circle track race pan with built in crank scraper an windage tray
94 factory aluminum Q-Jet intake with egr deleted.
Remaned an upgrade q-jet carb
new aluminum crank an water pump pulleys
New starter

Custom ground cam for the boat they speculate 325 to 350hp for my setup im gonna plug the motor specs into the desk top dyno an see what it says it is.

After looking inside the exhaust manifolds i dont see how this engine can expell the exhaust at upper rpms.Damn there heavy also.

Put in a battery that had some juice an cranked it over we got oil pressure lights all work but we need new horns there toast.

Hopefully tommorrow we fire it up an make sure everything works ok.

if so get the fork lift guy over there an get her in the water to try it out.

The pictures dont do it justice. This is an will be a fun boat it is way bigger in real life than (First Mate)Jeff expected.

Hell with the state park get together we now gonna meet on my boat an see how big of a wake we can throw to do some wake boarding.

I get some more pics of it tommorrow for you guys to see the progress.

lose the craprajet for a -------bore holley.

more power, easier to tune, cheaper to fix, etc.

also will be easier on fuel

Re: New project since NE aint gonna happen

Ok some one needs to do there home work on carbs. holley vs q-jet fuel usage holley will use probably 2 gallons an hour compared to the q jet 1 an hr.

Holley 600 vacum secondaries all throttle plates same size...............600cfm will also need new manifold $$$
Q-jet small primaries Huge secondaries ........................................795 cfm no manifold needed stock aluminum saves $$$$. Already i have save 200 towards the fuel an another 100 not buying a holley already had the q-jet an also probably will save 2.50 per hr while running if just running the primaries.Thats my 2 cents worth....
Also you would have to run 2 4cyl ford engine due to the size of this boat.Ask Jeff he has been aboard an its not a skiff...LOL

Do you think your gonna be wide open all the time ? if you are i have the wrong boat for that.

the small primaries will save you gas cruising or idling around :)

okay, since when does your 800cfm > 600cfm in gal/hr comsumption?

run smaller jets, and be done with it. you aren't going to use any more fuel than you would putting around with either, until you crack it wide open. smaller throttle bore = more vacuum across the jets = more intaked fuel. i have never known, seen, or heard of a qjet getting BETTER mileage than a holley for as long as i can remember...

#61 jets are about spot on, +/-2 on the size

Cadracer 08-09-2006 02:35 AM

Re: New project since NE aint gonna happen

;D Well you set it up your way ill do mine. The engine runs choice got her up an running tonight.an the primaries are half as big as a primary on a holley carb.Doesnt matter i have many years of tuning q-jet for both preformance an economy.
