whoops meant to say the teeth on the gears [i.e. 1,2,3,4,5 and reverse if you wanna waste time] themselves. got it mixed up when I was counting my hydro b16 ring gear vs. LS [blown diff so we swapped ring gears]. I believe cable gsr/ls both share a 4.4 final drive like the hydros other than the good itr tranny and the crappy ls/rs/gs.

count them, calculate them, and compare thenm to the ratios you can find on charts online.

Are there any recommended places for getting rebuild kits? Any "upgraded" diff pins for buying?

I would count on casing markings. YS1 is the casing you want but some LS's came with the YS1 casing. So it's up in the air. Breaking apart a trans is relatively easy. unbolt like 20 or whatever bolts that hold the two casings together, unscrew 2 nut thingys, take out the two "balls", unclip the thingy inside on top and pull apart. excuse my use of proper termanology, I'm ase certified via my ass :P It's just breaking apart the gears is where it gets more involved.

but yeah, i just say checked the gears, buddy got fucked on a tranny way back.

As for rebuild parts, I'd just buy Honda. syncros or dogteeth or whatever people call them are like ~200 a piece or something like that. I think they are less than 200, but lets just say 200. IMO it's only worth rebuilding if it's an actual GSR tranny. If it's LS it's paperwieght.

don't know anything about replacement dif pins though.

Cool good stuff.

Yeah I got fucked on a "great running block" that had parts of the bearing fall out when I took the rod caps off.

Being that this guy is stating it as a 94 gsr cable tranny, I think he's too stupid to tear apart a transmission or scam, but then again he obviously has no clue what he really has.

you cant rely on those stamps on the case... mine doesnt have any stamps on it... just the serial tag...

helps to get the tranny from someone you trust, and that is legit...

well first off check the tranny and see if it's even cable. look the the, again my expert termanology, the cable shifter thingy. it's a black piece of big metal in front of the tranny. Damn, I gave away my LS tranny otherwise I would take a picture. Or have him take a picture of the front of the tranny [when mounted in the car and you look at it from the front of the car, that side is what I am referring to as the front].

werd, the only trannys I would buy with ALMOST no hesitation is a Y80/Y21/S21 [I think those are them (gsr/si/4.4typers interchanged)] tranny, other than that it's iffy. Even then I would want it broken apart and verified.

IIRC no LS got the 4.4 FD, should be a 4.2x in that unit.

All 92-93 trans are YS1, whether you have LS or GSR YS1 depends on yanking the trans cover and counting teeth. Be forewarned, the gearsets and FDs get swapped around a lot sometimes.

Conserding there wasnt to many 92-93 gsr's the chance its a vtec transmission is slim. 99 percent of ys1's running around are ls units. The ys1 also came on the 92-93 cable jdm b16a integra.
