Super Civic To Power In

It's going to be one of Honda's most dramatic-looking cars ever - and in this week's mag we show the hot version of the all-new Civic baring its claws for the first time.

The mag's exclusive pictures show how the Type R will look, with its aggressive bodykit and low-slung rear end. Standard 17-inch alloys continue the racy feel, while 18-inch rims are optional.

The sporty design sets off the Civic's striking shape - as exclusively revealed in spy shots of the car testing by Auto Express in Issue 834 - emphasising the newcomer's coupé-style profile.

Sources suggest power will come from a highly tuned version of the 2.4-litre engine fitted to the Accord, developing as much as 250bhp. That would put the hot Civic on a par with other forthcoming super hatches, such as the VW Golf R34, Vauxhall Astra VXR and Ford Focus Cosworth. The 2006 Type R is expected to be more expensive than the current model, with prices starting at around £20,000. Drivers who want a more practical hot hatch can choose a Type S version, which is likely to have a similar power output to the existing Type R. This variant will be available in a choice of three and five-door forms, and will cost about the same as the current car, at around £16,000. Both models are set to appear after the standard five-door new Civic is launched at the Frankfurt Motor Show next September, so expect a showroom debut towards the middle of 2006.

Re:New Civic type-R

omg :-X never saw the Cobalt before, and Steve is secretly in love with it, so I checked it out on the web... here are a few observations! The car has the UGLIEST ASS since the outgoing Impala. The headlights are WAY TOO BIG. It's a glorified Cavalier. It's made by GM (GM cars=bad). The interior is uber-cheap. And to top it off, when you check out GMs new car models and try to check out pics of the Cobalt, they are super-tiny, like they are trying to not let you see "exactly" what the car looks like.

Re:New Civic type-R

too ------- big. i use to hate the ep hatches, but after seeing the 04-05 styles, the 01-03 have really grown on me, the 04+ hatches are just gross, the come with 17" rims, altezza lights and everyone at my local dealership has gay graphics on the side. i told the salesman they looked gross and he was like "what the heck are you talking about, that stuff is sharp, everybody has that stuff", uh yeah, they're called ricers you dweeb :P

Re:New Civic type-R

Far from ideal, but I'd rather get something that the manufacturer is targeting me with instead of buy something from honda that isn't targeted at me at all. (Who are these cars targeted for after all the support the import crowd has given them in the last 10 years??) ??? ??? ???

Honda is doing good with the 250hp motor, its just they're designers are ------- blind.

MikeJ-2009 12-10-2004 03:47 PM

Re:New Civic type-R

And not that I even find the cobalt all that great, but if our own people (honda) won't build something for us, we're eventually gonna have someone else as our people. (Like a manufacturer who wants to make cars the honda guys like, since honda won't do it.) I'll have my 92 hatch forever, I'm just really mad about the D, B being retired. If it ain't broke don't fix it. Look how long Chevy has had the 350= smarter then honda. :P

Dibble 12-10-2004 03:51 PM

Re:New Civic type-R

I will not be buying a new import.

If I buy a NEW tuner car, its going to be USDM. As in cobalt, srt4, redline, etc.

honda has the best engine tech available very impressive i'll give them that. Its just whoever they hired for their designs needs to get fired

Re:New Civic type-R

Its not like the D was some great motor that deserved praise. They're replacing the B with the K which is a huge step up. I say if improvements can be made than in with the new. IMO all Honda's are ugly as ----. They only become less ugly when we get used to them. The EF is an ugly ------- box, that the EG is an ugly ------- egg on wheels, the EK isn't too bad but it ain't no Enzo, and the whatever the new one is is a ------- minivan.

MikeJ-2009 12-10-2004 04:00 PM

Re:New Civic type-R

Well, if all of us on the site had one K series motor, we'd all be living in our cars, and the one K series that we had wouldn't be in pieces while we're playing/tweeking/upgrading it.
The D and the B made honda what it is. If they wanted to bring something better out that would be fine (like a K in the accord or something) but to just axe the D and B is stupid IMO.

W/E, when is your traction bar write up coming. I'm making one foe sho'. (and I'm waiting on you) :-*

very very true. the hondas i liked where the 88-91 civics, crx, and the 92-95civics. after 96-00 i thought they fucked it up. then i got used to seeing them around and i liked them alot. especialy when the si reapeared in 99'.

Reddy 12-10-2004 04:03 PM

Re:New Civic type-R

Give the K series some time, they'll eventually get cheap, they're just too new. And with the more K-series comming out the GSR motors will become cheaper. And its not like there will ever be a shortage of B and D series motors so who cares that they stopped producing them.

And the traction bar setup will be done hopefully before new years but I'm not making any promises. I got most of the parts at home, my finals are next week and I go home next weekend to get started on it. So hopefully before New Years

exactly. We dont like the K series now just because its price is high. Soon we will all forget about the D because the B will take its place. And later in the near future the K series will follow...

Chevy was crazy smart with what they did. I can take a 59 chevy and stick a 350 from an 89 Camaro in it. Crazy. Thats one thing I wish Honda had done.

The D series today is what the A series was years ago. Eventually we will all look at D's with disgust, buy B series for dirt cheap and pay a few G's on a K series swap.
