i don't think oil changes are scheduled maintenance type things, more like common sense maintenance. scheduled maintenance are like you 30k, 60k, "tune up" type bullshit, but they're all bull ---- anyways. the most complicated thing consists of tranny fluid change. i got my 00 si with 54k on it and took it by the dealer to see about a 60k mile maintenance (basically i just wanted to know what it consisted of so i could do it my self), he told me, oil/filter change, tranny fluid change, adjust valves, new spark plugs/wires, change cabin filter. all of this for the low price of 500 dollars, i did all of it my self for the low price of under 100 dollars, and it was only that much b/c i ordered my vc gasket from honda, and i used honda mtf (kinda pricey).

haha, that's kinda funny. Did you seriously for one minute think that a car would make it to 110,000 miles without an oil change?!!

Man, that poor civic. :'( If he thinks he doesn't have to change the oil, maybe he shouldn't even drive a car. :P

My mom was telling that back in the late 80's she had an rx7. She said that in the 10 years she owned it she never once changed her oil! :o

Im thinking it had to have been changed a couple times when brought to a repair shop for other things or something.

This cannot be true at all. RX-7's combustion chambers are on both sides of the "rings" so they have to inject oil into the combustion chamber. Therefore from factory they burn oil. After 1 year there would be no oil in that car.

Re:New Civic..110,000 miles til oil change?!?!?

Also as for not changing your oil for 110,000 that is complete bullshit. No matter if Honda built a miracle motor the properties of the oil is what causes you to need to change the oil. After a certain amount of time the heat breaks down the oil and causes it to loose its lubricating properties.

I never owned a brand new car in my life but if I did, I would at least take care of it and change the oil. Don't be a dumbass

Do you think that was good for it?

Re:New Civic..110,000 miles til oil change?!?!?

Plus, there are no needed tune-ups for the first 110,000 miles

That is what it says at the link you gave. TUNE-UPS are not oil changes. Oil changes are routine maintainence.

Re:New Civic..110,000 miles til oil change?!?!?

Not only does oil break down, but your engine ingests quite a bit of dirt. After all the dirt settles into the oil, if forms sludge and....well, sludge doesn't lubricate very well.

I had a 69 Dart and I don't think the oil was changed in it......ever. That ------- oil was more like wax. Clogged the ---- out of everything. >:(

Tell your buddy to change his ------- oil. Since this is a new motor he should chnage it at like 500 miles. Some peoples kids......

the problem with oil isn't so much dirt, but blowby. Piston rings aren't the perfect all sealing angels we think they are, they get worn out overtime especially if our friend "boost" gets to meet them. Newer cars can probably put more time between oil changed because of better technology, but 3k is good for everyone.
