New car, Old car, Home made naws. (56k end yourself)
2 weeks ago I got a 89 240sx for 700 because it's got a spun bearing. I plan to swap in a ka24de and turbo it.. by the end I hope to put down 450whp at 25-30 psi.
Untill then, here's some pics. http://www.norcalhockey.org/1/8.jpg Here's me looking like a queer yet excessively excited at with my new car. http://www.norcalhockey.org/1/9.jpg My dad http://www.norcalhockey.org/1/10.jpg Teh hotness http://www.norcalhockey.org/1/11.jpg I need to put in a stereo, but other than that the interior is perfect.... o. short shifter too. http://www.norcalhockey.org/1/12.jpg http://www.norcalhockey.org/1/15.jpg four seats... I've been missing that in my crx http://www.norcalhockey.org/1/16.jpg 15" somethings... When theyre all cleaned up they'll look nice... time for new tires though.. I have a pirelli on the front right.. spare tire back right, and daytonas? on the left side. http://www.norcalhockey.org/1/22.jpg I'm excited for the dohc swap. I got the motor for it for 415 shipped. Not bad http://www.norcalhockey.org/1/23.jpg Awwww And now for the beast that towed this thing home.. http://www.norcalhockey.org/1/20.jpg 1998 suburban 2500. Supercharged 454 on 6 psi of boost. we had it on 8 for a while but it was pinging like a mofo. On 6 psi it's putting somewhere around 500whp though.. It goes pretty well for a 6,000 pound car. http://www.norcalhockey.org/1/19.jpg Headers, flowmasters and a K&N to help it breathe. Here's the fun part..... So I read a while ago here... http://www.geocities.com/calgarycivics/NOS.html about homemade nos. I really wanted to do it but didn't have a motor to destroy. While I was sitting around one day I realized.. hey! I have a motor that's fucked anyways.. why not try it on that? So.. We set up the whip cream nos for my ka24e with a spun bearing. http://www.norcalhockey.org/1/1.jpg Here it is taped on with thick electrical tape because the hose was too small and i couldnt get it on without spilling out my nos ;). http://www.norcalhockey.org/1/2.jpg Here you can see where it is on the intake. I just pulled off a hose that wasn't doing anything important. http://www.norcalhockey.org/1/4.jpg Don't forget to notice the jumper cables connecting the battery to the wires in the car.... the way the new battery was oriented, the wires wouldnt fit.. so we just clamped on jumper cables and taped it up to hopefully avoid a short. http://www.norcalhockey.org/1/6.jpg This was just after we got back.... Because it had a spun bearing, getting up to 25mph was a challenge in it's self.. at 4k rpms i thought I was going to die. The whip cream didn't do ---- to the engine good or bad, but somehow even though it was straight up, we had whip cream pouring out of the tape. I'm trying to turn the car back on because along with no brake fluid, I leaked out whichever fluid does the clutch.. the clutch was stuck on the ground and you couln't get it in gear when it was on. O well.. we had like 6 people to push it back home. That thing was so loud though! I thought the rod was going to fly out of the block at any time. That's my bro holding the whip cream, me driving, and my friend in the back. http://www.norcalhockey.org/1/7.jpg Mayb next time I'll use more whip cream cans at the same time and make a direct port setup. |

The whip cream pictures didn't show up last time I read the thread. Now that I see em, you guys remind me of the little rascals.
If you don't already, start calling your friend in the passenger seat "spanky". It seems fitting. ;D |

funnay? cool you got the project tho. any reason you didn't do an sr20? price? are the ka24des good for FI?
|
Re: New car, Old car, Home made naws. (56k end yourself)
always thought the sr20det was better... but i dont know nissan :-\

Re: New car, Old car, Home made naws. (56k end yourself)
The ka24de is good for fi..... Because of it's long stroke and big displacement it makes a shitload of torque. Also, the rods from the factory are forged and can hold 500 hp. for 400 all you really need is pistons and good headwork.
The sr20 can blow me.... They are less efficent, smaller motors, and you have to put a ton of money into just getting it swapped. |

Re: New car, Old car, Home made naws. (56k end yourself)
Sure.. its also biased opinion.. but if you look at any forums top dynos.. the top guys will be putting down like 500 ish... with that.. the ka people just shotpeen their rods, forged pistons, and cams.
The sr's that put down numbers like that are fully biult and cost more. I got my motor for 415 shipped to cali from ohio... all I need is a wiring harness and ecu... so lets say 550 vs 3k. why downgrade for 2500 more? |
Re: New car, Old car, Home made naws. (56k end yourself)
good deal for 700 bucks. that body looks straight.
|
Re: New car, Old car, Home made naws. (56k end yourself)

Damn you guys look like your straigt off the set of that 70's show. Ain't nothing wrong with the shag look. Either way for 700 that 240 is clean as hell. I feel the same way with the KA vs SR ----. SR's are overhyped like a B16.

What are you using for managment on that Suburban?

The sr20 can blow me.... They are less efficent, smaller motors, and you have to put a ton of money into just getting it swapped. It's just a lot of jdm hype, and people not willing to get dirty and installing their own turbo kit. They just buy an engine with everything on it. The ka24de is a truck engine, so it does make good torque. on a side note, I like the car a lot, I want to pick one up, and no I've always like the 240's and I don't like drifting, and play with it a little. |
Re: New car, Old car, Home made naws. (56k end yourself)
Were making alot more on are sr20's than 500. Weve got a ka turbo too, its very impressive, but it was done right, and it WASNT cheap. Ka's do not flow as well as sr's, thus giving them more potential. TO get the same numbers from teh ka there's alot more work to be done.
But that supercharged suv is pretty nice. |

They are less efficent, smaller motors, and you have to put a ton of money into just getting it swapped. from what i've heard the swap isn't very hard at all and don't cost that much to swap either. you don't need new mounts or anything, and you can find the engine, tranny, ecu, and uncut harness for about 2400. the red-top sr20det with just top can make 475whp. i don't think a ka could do that at all. |
Re: New car, Old car, Home made naws. (56k end yourself)
ya the sr20 is a bandwagon motor. It's a pos in my mind. I'd do a ka24 way before an sr20. and the 240s are the new civic with all this drift/jdm crap going on. I HATE drift.. it's just a for of entertainment.. waste of tires.

Re: New car, Old car, Home made naws. (56k end yourself)
if by POS you mean better, than yes it is a POS.

Re: New car, Old car, Home made naws. (56k end yourself)
The KA is a really beefy motor, and stock internals they have been taken to over 500whp. Check out Non Fujita's OS Giken sponsored car :)
Here's my pignose coupe: http://img139.echo.cx/img139/1130/DSC00725.jpg KA24DE with I/H/E, overall a good daily driver. I payed $1k for it with a blown SOHC, and the KADE swap cost me $1,100 including the I/H/E and a new clutch. Has me wanting to sell my Civic :p |
Re: New car, Old car, Home made naws. (56k end yourself)
I liked the write up and pics, thanks.
The problem with the KA is the block, it's maxed out, the walls between the pistons is so thin. Ppl have been having ---- luck boosting those motors for years, and even with really good management, they might make ---- loads of power, but they don't last long, and their is hardly even enough meat between the cylinders to do a bore job if you did have to rebuild, I guess the blocks are cheap and plentiful if you don't mind doing frequent swaps. http://www.sdsefi.com/features/240blok2.jpg Here's one guys experience, this guy created the sds efi system BTW and has been boosting all sorts of cars and planes for years; http://www.sdsefi.com/features/240sx.htm Good luck!
