New car need help picking a motor

Alright well today I just picked up a riced out EG for $500 with a warped head. I'm looking to do a swap but I don't know what to go with so I made a poll cause Jeff has a hard on for polls. ;) Well here's the options...

1. D16Z6. I already have this motor I can just throw it in and not spend a dime. The only shitty part is that it is just a D and HP especially boosted is limited. This probably won't happen but since I do have the motor it is an option. Long live the dirty D 8)

2. the LS/Vtec cause LS bottom ends are a dime a dozen. This would also be a cheaper route than an H22 cause I don't need to buy mounts and I can build it without sleeving it cause it doesn't have gay FRM sleeves like the H22. The only problem with this is finding a Vtec head and a good trans :-\

3. H22. This is what I'm leaning towards becuase my friend has the full H22 swap that I could pick up for about $1100. The thing I really don't like about the H22 is the price of the swap, terrible ringlands for boost and the FRM sleeves so I can't use aluminum pistons without sleeving. It would be nice to hit 13's all motor and this by far has the best potential.

Well there's my options so let me know your input and opinions. Whistles go woo

I really want to do the H22 but I'm not sure. So if you post can you post why you chose what you did?

Id go with the H22 man, if you can get one cheap and I dunno if you seen this but Josh made a post a month or two ago about a company that came out with a forged piston that could be used with the stock H22 sleeves, they were close to $650 though

That would be my route for sure if I had a cheap swap available

Pics of the Eg?

I figure with mounts and ---- I could do the swap for $1600 than I would have $2100 into the whole car with lots of potential. And no I won't have pics of the car since I basically bought it 5 minutes before I got on a bus to go back to school. Its in not bad of shape besides the interior was ------ized with Stereo equiptment, it has 16 inch ARD white wheels, ricer exhaust and the passenger side door says "CAN YOU TAKE ME HOME TOO?" Lol, its definitely the work of a chick and it starts at the top of the molding and fills up the whole bottom of the door too ;)

whitey, lets have a horsepower/ ET competition. Starting today, you have to be done in two years. ;)

2.0 ls/vtack owns you

Bah, who cares about HP. I'll put $100 that I'll run a faster ET than you this season. ;) **Inset turbooptions post here**

ls/vtec

i'm going to have a LS tranny for sale in about a month if your gonna need one (getting a B16 Y1 tranny for my LS O0 )

its in good condition, both of its drivers before me were shifters before 3k.. before i came along ;D but i dont bash it (too hard)

Yeah so do I but I don't want to pay for it ;) I if I put the same money into the D as into the H, the D would make 350hp while the H would make 550hp. I don't care what engine I have as long as it goes really fast for really cheap

Re: New car need help picking a motor

dude, there is no replacement for displacement, swap the h22 and save up.

W O T 03-14-2005 02:32 AM

Re: New car need help picking a motor

Yeah but if it blows, another H series swap might not be available for cheap...

Spenser 03-14-2005 04:40 AM

Re: New car need help picking a motor

if it blows up, then swap in the z6 (which he has) and then that way he can build the h22.

Re: New car need help picking a motor

who said i was going to japan?

I say do the dirty D, only because you already have it, and if you have $1100 to buy a h22 why not put the 1100 into that D? You could build a pretty bad ass D with $1,100.

Jmunk 03-14-2005 07:17 AM

Re: New car need help picking a motor

I would say anything but the h swap. The engine bay is really tight to work on which is a pain in the ass. I would say LS/VTEC or D.

and then you will be out of potential, where the h22 will be almost as fast stock and have lots more to go when you build it

Re: New car need help picking a motor

do the ls vtec or a gsr swap, h22 makes the nose to heavy and kills some of the handling. If its just a 1/4 mile car then go h22.

Re: New car need help picking a motor

d15 all the way!!!! no really, i would go with LS/VEEtech. finding a good tranny will be a bitch as you said, thats about the only thing i see thats a con with going that route. H22 is good and Cheap for all motor but then again you would have to spend more $$ for boost applications due to those weak ass ring lands and shitty cylinder walls.

good luck anyway and did anyone mention anything about Frank goinf to japan? i mean i don't think anyone nkows about it yet 8)

Re: New car need help picking a motor

ive read that the h22 is only like 4 more pounds than a b if you use a b series trans

BoosTedZSix 03-14-2005 11:45 AM

Re: New car need help picking a motor

theres not much difference. if i remember the over all difference between a b and an h22 is like 25 lbs. which isnt much. it just hangs low. i mean if your gonna just leave it n/a then the h22 is the way to go. nothing like 13's all day with just a bone stock motor

no replacement for displacement.
H22 is the way to go

or go H23 vtec :D

go ls vtec, more displacement and cheaper for faster than a H, but if you wanna go real fast, i got a engine for ya vg30dett...

Re: New car need help picking a motor

h series' sucks my balls, you cant turbo the stock motor later on if you wanted to. unless you plan on fully building it

Why ain't there a friggin D14 on the poll? Those rock, didn't you see the video of the guys who beat up that hatch, put water in it, and a whole bunch of other ----? 300 WHP and it lasts forever. Well maybe 100 WHP on a good day but still.

Even with the $1100 in the D its still very limited. I mean how many built 500hp D's are out there compared to 500hp H's? and plus the added torque

The weight making it handle like ---- is a myth.

yeah but I bet the H at 8psi made the same HP as an LS motor at 14psi.
