New car:JYR is going back to Japan
Running out of ideas:
Rundown. I quit Hondas. Sold 99.9% of my ----. To many ------- idiots and to much theft.
I bought a Subaru. Love the car, just isnt quite what I want. Thinking about selling it.
$5000 to spend
Needs: Something to fit my wife and kid in. Something I can have fun in. By fun I mean a 4x4 or a fun daily driver that would be fun to take to an auto-x course. I also wouldn't mind having a pickup. By pickup I mean a 4x4 ex cab diesel. Not exactly fun, but fun in its own way. A pick up would allow me to tow a car to an auto-x or road course.
I'm thinking about:
Land Rover Discovery (right now this is what im set on)
First gen dodge diesel
I need ideas.

Re: New car
Honestly, why not one of those Awesome Huge *** Diesels (Im partial to Chevy and the duramax) and toss a little dough at it and have a diesel that squashes Hondas.
had an old man in his 50's try to run me in my civic, i say try cause before I knew what happend my worthless little NA civic was swallowed in black smoke and he was gone lol.
In all fairness I thoguht he was yelling at me untill he smashed it and left me so i never really ran him but if i had tried it wouldnt have really mattered. You never think the giant ford 350 super duty is really trying to run you, the goddamn thing had 3 alum latters and a full size tool box on it for ***** sake.

Re: New car
Don't get a Disco, the build quality is second rate. Most people think that's the main problem with them, but the main problem with them is that they are third rate 4X4s.
Older diesel trucks are starting to go for $0.59 as a product of where the diesel prices were and where everyone knows they will go back to being. I wouldn't saddle myself with one as a DD, but you can make a toy of one.

Re: New car
My brother has a second gen dodge and its pretty quick. His buddy has a 1st hen that's built and nuts. That's what has me turned onto them. Fuel prices I'm not that worried about. I plan to buy a bike this summer and farm fuel is cheap and available to me in Indiana.
For the lexus idea, I'm not a fan. Nice idea though.
My wife told me I could get a 2 seater as long as I put some money into her truck, which I'm totally game for.
With that, I can buy my old RX7 back and have a blast in that. I regret selling that car.

Re: New car
I have a first gen dodge diesel, there are pics of it floating around here.
They are cheap, reliable, easy to make 300hp after that it is pricey. Ride like a saw horse, loud, decently comfortable (I have a reg cab and I am 6'3") Typically have rust issues and body issues, but for the money I can't think of anything better.
With no money in it at all, Just tweaked the pump and the boost, with 40" tires on I beat a 7.3 super duty with intake 5" exhaust, edge box on kill. Walked him at that. He sold the truck shortly after and has a 2nd gen dodge now.
I like the 5speed better it is stronger then the auto, and all you need is a good clutch up to about 500hp, as long as you don't lug it or abuse it. The 727 auto is decent out of the box other then the torque converter is built for a gasser, it is non lock up, and will take a bit of power over stock before upgrades. The A518 needs a good torque converter and a big aux cooler if you want anymore power then stock, again non lock up. You can swap in a 47rh out of the second gen with out too much work, and then you have the benefit of a lock up converter, but it needs a valve body and converter to cope with anything over stock power.
The only reason I would get an auto over the 5spd is if I was going to race it, the auto is quite a bit quicker, especially with a good valve body and torque converter. Or if I had to do a ton of stop go driving in it, I.E commuting in heavy traffic.
2nd gen is more money, but you can make a lot more power a lot easier. I just like the character of the first gens.
