Solution: You use it to occupy the inbred -----tards so they dont ask you questions while your tuning. 8) You make more money and can afford a nicer metal shed to put car parts in.

It translates linear motion into an analog signal (like a MAP sensor translates air pressure to an analog signal to be read by our ecu)

I've used them with load cells on tensile machines to plot force and deflection when you're crushing or stretching a piece of pipe.
I doubt I have any lying around though, don't build many of those

Judging from his WTB thread involving struts he wants to set up a jig to test his theories of customizing stock struts with custom valving.

I've been going on in a circle about valving shocks since I tuned a local guy's car and he showed me the shock dyno sheets for his circle track car, which is supposed to be stock suspension so his stockers were modified.

There are a couple interesting threads currently in action on HT, look at the post history of username 'beanbag' and you will LOL. I have a higher functioning variant of the DAQ he used that sits around and collects dust between tuning SRT4, seemed putting it into steady use would be a good idea.

You can get a Telma off a big rig, didn't they used to call them Jake Brakes?. Are the other two the same kinda deals?

Looking forward to the build. Would love to have an engine dyno, but the one I want starts at 17K. Thought about building my own, but didn't want to figure out the math and code for RPM Hold function, which seems like it would be super cool for tuning.

It could be done. You could make a mount to hold the motor and allow it to rotate only about the cranshkafts axis of rotation. Then attach a spring with a known spring rate to prevent it from rotating. Using your linear transducer you could calculate torque from linear displacement. Log RPM and displacement and BAM you have a dyno.
