New build thread.

Still have a few parts to buy. Anyone have a S- or Z-beam load cell capable of reading 1000+ lbs laying around?

What does it do?

Re: New build thread.

A transducer is a device, usually electrical, electronic, electro-mechanical, electromagnetic, photonic, or photovoltaic that converts one type of energy or physical attribute to another for various purposes including measurement or information transfer (for example, pressure sensors).
The term transducer is commonly used in two senses; the sensor, used to detect a parameter in one form and report it in another (usually an electrical or digital signal), and the audio loudspeaker, which converts electrical voltage variations representing music or speech, to mechanical cone vibration and hence vibrates air molecules creating acoustical energy.

Just pony up the cash and get a Stuska Water Brake!

That's the next build thread, and I'll probably go with a Klam, Telma, or Frenelsa since I am (going to be?) a EE, not a ME.

Very close, though.

I want one of these

Linear Displacement Transducer

www.pornhub.com is a spermatic transducer.

I didn't even look at the link Joey. :(

Proof positive wine makes you smart.

I have no idea what you are building. Im not even going to venture a guess. Good luck with your time machine.

I would guess that he's building a dynometer.

It's spelled dynamometer, and could one of you asshats explain to me exactly how a linear transducer is used on a dyno? Thanks.

---- you we went to the same High school.

Solution: You use it to occupy the inbred -----tards so they dont ask you questions while your tuning. 8) You make more money and can afford a nicer metal shed to put car parts in.

It translates linear motion into an analog signal (like a MAP sensor translates air pressure to an analog signal to be read by our ecu)

I've used them with load cells on tensile machines to plot force and deflection when you're crushing or stretching a piece of pipe.
I doubt I have any lying around though, don't build many of those

Judging from his WTB thread involving struts he wants to set up a jig to test his theories of customizing stock struts with custom valving.

ding ding ding.

I've been going on in a circle about valving shocks since I tuned a local guy's car and he showed me the shock dyno sheets for his circle track car, which is supposed to be stock suspension so his stockers were modified.

There are a couple interesting threads currently in action on HT, look at the post history of username 'beanbag' and you will LOL. I have a higher functioning variant of the DAQ he used that sits around and collects dust between tuning SRT4, seemed putting it into steady use would be a good idea.

You can get a Telma off a big rig, didn't they used to call them Jake Brakes?. Are the other two the same kinda deals?

Looking forward to the build. Would love to have an engine dyno, but the one I want starts at 17K. Thought about building my own, but didn't want to figure out the math and code for RPM Hold function, which seems like it would be super cool for tuning.

It could be done. You could make a mount to hold the motor and allow it to rotate only about the cranshkafts axis of rotation. Then attach a spring with a known spring rate to prevent it from rotating. Using your linear transducer you could calculate torque from linear displacement. Log RPM and displacement and BAM you have a dyno.

Jake brakes are something different, pneumatic operation of valves to use the engine as a brake.

The cheapest retarder's I've found are in the $550 range and look dirty and abused. Meh.

You do realise that a load cell is typically cheaper than a good transducer? I picked up a 1000lb S-beam load cell for $43 to the door.

I thought they were a master fuel-cut used to compression brake down hills.

i'm not sure which diesel engine brake it is, but im thinking of one that double duties one of the valves in the cyl to pump air into itself. or pump air into it on an exhaust stroke, i dont remember

Hey, you just asked how a linear transducer could be used for a dyno...not logicabilities.
