Need opinions. computer related.

I have an old desktop that I built way back. Its a AMD 2500,1gig of Corsair 430 , Geforce 5900se blah blah. So now all the new games are coming out and it will grind that machine to a halt almost. My laptop isnt powerful enough to play COD4 either. So should I try to find a decent AGP video card and run what I have or Im just fucked. I can over clock the machine and the video card quite a bit as it sits but will just buy another video card if it will do the trick.

Can someone recommend a good AGP video card? Is there such a thing anymore. I used to be really into computer hardware but not for some years now.

Any recommendations will be appreciated.

Almost everything good video related now adays is PCI-E, which means you have to upgrade your mobo and probably your processor and ram as well.

I have the best AGP card, 6800 ultra., or at least I think it still is. It can run ut3, but it doesn't look very good. It doesn't like rendering all of the bloom in newer games. You're going to need to go PCI-E or it's not worth it.

i still have a voodoo3 3000 pci 16mb card in box, low usage.

back when pci was hot, and the voodoo 5 5500 had its own plug into the wall power supply because it ate over 250w of power.

What about this one? My machine wont even boot the game due to outdated card.

I didn't read the rest of these posts because i'm pretty buzzed, but go on newegg and match up a card with your board that has at least 256mb of memory and has at least 8 pixel pipelines, maybe upgrade your RAM to 2gb and you should be good to go..

I'm running a 1.8mhz amd 64 with 2gb of ram and a 1650 pro radeon and there isn't a game i've played that touches my resources :)

It's all about how well your OS is setup too, use XP pro, take off all the graphical interface bullshit (use windows classic theme) and tweak it to only run neccessary programs at start up..

that card is an overkill for your system.. if you're going to invest that much you might as well get a new board and go PCI-E, maybe even an SLI board so you can link up 2 video cards in the future

I read that but every review of the ATI cards that were AGP said there were extreme driver problems.

Re: Need opinions. computer related.

I havent had the first bit of issues with it. I am using it on a Dell though so its not a true blue built rig, thats more than likely why i havent had issues.

NewEgg is very good about RMA's though so if you dont like it slap it in a box and ship the fucker back. :6 bout to sent back a digital picture frame and a few other things from Christmas.
