my truck is officially too big... damn NC lift laws...

well i got this here ticket today for my truck being lifted too high... the most bull ---- ticket ive ever seen. i was wondering if anyone had ever gotten (doubt...) knows someone one who has gotten one (more likely) or know a way to get out of it...

the best thing that ive came up with is plead not guilty and ask the officer if he knows how tall my truck is at any point and if he knows how tall a stock truck is at any point and HOPEFULY when he says no since he didnt bust out the tape measure theyll throw it out...?

any more fancy ideas folks?

and wtf is the deal with the ZC?

I'm not trying to be a dick but you have a half ton truck with 46 inch tires 20inch wheels, small ass brakes, small ass frame the front suspension of a s10 and a lift kit from a company that has changed there name about 4 times from being sued because they are weak as ----. Why is the cop/law stupid again?

Neat, mount the bumpers on hydraulics that lower them when the truck is driving and raise them back up when parked. And you could get a switch box in the cab that would make them bounce up and down... oh... wait... no... that would be stupid.

If you pay the money to classify that as a a couple weight classes higher you can legally do whatever the ---- you want to the bumpers - height, solid steel, etc. - right now it's a passenger truck and the bumpers are so high you'll drive over someone's face in an accident instead of hitting them and letting the bumpers do their work. You own a CRX, dude, a stock Z71 would drive up a CRX and kill the occupants, you should be aware of this.

FWIW, lower the truck. If it just has a mild body lift, cool, that's even better. Bring a picture of it lowered into court and ask what the big deal is, if the cop says that's not the truck tell the court the truck is outside if they want to inspect it. Keep in mind the cop will have an axe to grind after you do this.

i have 35" bfg muds on an 87 chevy diesel and it got written up as needing a safety cause some bitch ass cop said it was too high, even though my bumpers were built to keep it at legal bumper heights. She was pissed when they measured it and it was still 4" below legal max so she wrote it off the road cause my lic plate lamp was burnt out. I still had the papers from the last safety 5 months prior in the glove box. damn fun police. How much?

Yah, it's a sweet truck, but that's not the point my CRX-loving ass is *painfully* aware of.

The CRX in that pic would make a great ramp for that truck. Look, the bumper would never even hit the car. Nothing but tire.

sick truck

your plan will probably work.

ask the officer how tall your truck is and if he doesn't know ask the judge to impeach the witness.

1Fast68 11-18-2008 03:40 AM

Re: my truck is officially too big... damn NC lift laws...

I know in Wa the law says bumpers can't be more than like 10" higher than stock or 36" or some ---- before its illegal. No question your way beyond either of those. Check your local laws to see what you gotta do to conform with them. If you have the truck fixed before your court date to make it legal, plead ignorance and hope the judge drops the ticket.

Seriously though, your truck is useless. Hopefully you never get in an accident and kill somebody cuz you were trying to look cool.

After being cut off in my (previous) CRX on a highway by a dumptruck going 5mph, I'm glad these laws are in place. Not only did I splatter the inside of the CRX with my hemoglobin, I was knocked unconscious and got a nice ~40 stitches to my face.

The picture you posted should make it clear to you why they have those laws.

what ------- court systems do you guys have that the cop comes to the court date?
does every cop who writes any ticket to anyone have to be at all of the court dates?

to the op, that is way to high. at least here in WI your headlights can only be so high.
and jd, just paying for commercial status or whatever you suggested will not allow a truck to have any bumper height, look at the back of any semi and you can see the lowered bumper that is REQUIRED now, same with the front i think my corolla has higher bumpers then most semis.

and if you think that truck is cool just remind yourself its a gm

....im pretty sure every court is like that. The cop has always been there when I've gone to court. If the cop doesnt show i think you can basically get off since there is no witness, although I think they can sorta pass the torch to another cop if they know they wont be there. Im not sure.

And what JD was talking about wasnt commercial status, it was weight class (if i understood correctly). In NJ, im pretty sure the amount of lift you can have is directly related to the weight of the truck, so if you get it classified as a heavier truck you can lift more (not sre if thats possible though).
