My thoughts on the new HMT, from an OG that was here at the beginning...

Well, a few of og's (myself included) went from being high school kids with spare cash laying around to play around with to college kids that are flat broke. Eventually there will be a bunch of new ---- from the college kid og's that have the time and money to do legit ---- once they graduate, at least I hope so.

I first found the site when Jeff still had it on GeoCities. (That's right I am MFwayOG, nukka!) I made the very first Paypal donation to the site, and Jeff sent me a ton of information by email and phone to get me started, because there were no forums back then. I contributed back to the site later on the forums, by answering well posted technical questions, directing new folks to the site, and advising noobs to read the project pages, then all of the forums.
(And also by building quality ---- for HMT brethren at decent prices.)
Nowdays, I don't tell as many folks about the site. And when I do tell them, it's always with the suggestion that they lurk, avoid GD unless they can stomach apparent racism and vicious flaming from our members, and that they try to focus on the educational aspects of the site.
I agree with the OP, the lawlessness is not how HMT used to be. HMT is my home site, and I will always be here to some degree, but I do wish that the old HMT creativity and mentorship would return.

That whole deal was classic, even the maker of the pillow showed up on the site.

glad to see some common sense prevailing here.. a bit refreshing after this ---- storm. i was never a big contributor but hoping to do more in the future. just got tired of wading through the ---- and dealing with bozos. although some of them were really knowledgeable, I hope some will stick around.
now when I hit new posts it's at least 50% tech, getting there
only gripe with the new mgmt is my posts have disappeared.. wtf?? any way to find those?

Nah. Not true. Some OG's still build Home Made Turbos. I built several and sold them. Now I drive a 1.8T Hitler sled and work on gas turbine engines so I don't have much time to play.
More in to off roading now and have big plans with the wife to move up to Australia as soon as my contract with the Canadian Air Force is up.
