Comcast speedtests aren't very accurate

They have a "speed boost" feature that temporarily boosts the speed for a short time, so speed tests will see the boosted speeds. Sitting on bittorrent you'll never stay steady at such a high speed.

# PowerBoost is a network speed enhancement that delivers a powerful burst of speed - often up to twice the provisioned level of speed - when downloading large files such as software, music, online games and videos.
# Up to 12Mbps/2Mbps, on our 6Mbps service.
# Up to 16Mbps/2Mbps on our 8Mbps service.
# There is no additional cost to customers for this service enhancement.

# Comcast 6Mb will average download speed of 12Mbps during the first 10MB of a file download and then revert back to 6Mbps for the remainder of the download
# Comcast 8Mb will average download speed of 16Mbps during the first 20MB of a file download and then revert back to 8Mbps for the remainder of the download
Of course, numbers may be different for your area, but yeah. Basically just temporarily uncaps your connection. After it downloads the powerboost limit of 10/20mb, it reverts back to provisioned speed

80Mb / 6Mbps ≈ 13.333 sec.
160Mb / 8Mbps = 20 sec.
^ Time you have to wait to use it again

So yeah, those numbers are false comcasters, sorry

Ooh, another bit of juicy info:

I'll stick with my constant 20mbps from mediacom for the same price as 8mb from other companies and no bandwidth cap...

This week at shool I was very surprised. I download an Linux iso at average of 1.5Mb/sec (mega byte, not mega bit) on a wireless network. Then I go on youtube and unable to watch a 10sec video....

Maybe it was the fact that I downloaded the iso from another University.

The download might be soft because it's daytime during the holidays and there's lots of people (schoolkids) online right now, but there is a big difference in upstream.

My school does that as well. I think they try to throttle traffic for certain things. I've downloaded mp3's (required for a language class) and it will cut my download speed down to like 50kbps. Youtube never buffers correctly, even when I'm on campus when school isn't in and some other websites that are popular, but useless, time out.

Speedtest.net is sucking *** for me right now...

Anyway. Here's a download I did with my home connection:
Name: x264.jpg
Views: 3
Size: 3.8 KB
1.7mB/s and I've seen it peak around 2.0mB/s (ie, 2000kbps)

Here's the new gigabit (1gbps up/down) box I just got:
Name: seedbox.jpg
Views: 7
Size: 60.2 KB
Theoretically I can download/upload as fast as 128mB/s, but its been known to peak around 140-150mB/s. Doesn't really matter since I'll never find a torrent that can download that fast.
