My Ricer Rant *with pics*
Here is the story of my car.
When I first got my car I didn't really know what the term "ricer" meant. I just thought it meant anyone who modifies an import. Thanks to HMT and this little experience I now know how wrong I was. So I'm looking for a car (btw, this is my first car, so I didn't exactly know what all to check over before buying). One day I came upon a nice looking 89 crx HF that appealed to me. I took it for a drive, and the next day I bought it for 2400. At the time the work I knew that needed to be done was new shocks, new clutch, and a little touch up. The mods were: Sparco Tornio seats with 4pt. harnesses Short shifter Indiglo gauges It used to have a stereo in it, but the previous owner took it out. All that was left was the power wire for the subs so I wouldn’t have to run a new one. Ebay coilovers Alteza tail lights and clear corners “Saftey orange” colored exterior Painted white and orange interior Painted valve cover CAI DC headers and flowmaster exhaust. Now just seeing this I can tell you probably want to slap me for buying this car…. But we’re just getting started. As I have been gradually found out over the 4 months that I have owned this car, everything that the previous owner touched, he fucked up in some way. ___________ Sparco seats… Not only were they mounted incorrectly, one side of the seats wasn’t bolted in, the bolt was just sitting in a hole. 4pt. harnesses. They were mounted to the floor right behind the seat. For anyone that doesn’t know, that means that if I had gotten in an accident using the 4pts I would’ve broken by back. Short shifter – Cut down stock shifter with the shifter hot melt glued on Indiglo gauges – with the intensity dial just sitting by the driver’s seat, so if you try to adjust it, it shocks you Stereo – the wire that was running to the back for the subs was hot. Lucky for me, there was a fuse, so when the wire contacted a ground, it didn’t melt the ---- out of my whole system. Ebay coilovers – set so low the springs weren’t under any load, and he didn’t change the shocks, so they were the stock ones from an 89. Alteza tail lights – put in poorly and sealed again with hot melt glue. Saftey orange painted exterior – not only does this shout rice at the top of it’s lungs, but he didn’t even do a good job on it. The bumpers have drip marks and flakes chipping off them. Then once I was hanging out with some friends, and a friend of a friend told me that his auto shop class painted it. Well now at least there’s no wonder why it sucks. Painted orange and white interior – speaks for itself, but it’s also flaking like a bitch. Painted valve cover – I think that bastard must have spray painted it because it’s flaking off too and looks like ----. CAI – less than an inch from hitting the positive battery terminal- separated by masking tape Exhaust – probably the least screwed up out of everything – but instead of putting an aftermarket cat on with flanges, the ass just welded it in. And now the new problems… All the electronics are ----.. all the wiring is crimped together, and holding on by a thread. When the car was getting painted, somehow about half the screws for the body ran away, now my bumper and side skirts are half on. THEN – I took it into the shop this week because I needed the clutch changed and my front right wheel hub replaced. I would normally do this myself, but I just didn’t have the time. So I was talking to my shop about how the car is coming along, and somehow they kept on getting the wrong hub from Honda. As we have found out today, the front left spindle was replaced with a SI spindle. The reason the hub needed to be replaced was because the HF axle reemed out the hub and was just spinning and grinding the ---- out of itself in there. I am so pissed at everything right now. For myself for not knowing ---- about the car I bought, and for the retarded owner who couldn’t do a project right to save his life. Since I’ve owned the car, I’ve tried to improve the car’s situation a little, but upgrading the whole suspension, and putting on a HMT turbo kit. But, I’m not seeing a light at the end of the tunnel for this car. The lesson of the story – Stay away from ricers! They’re bad. And know what you're getting into before you buy. |

very true. But ya. this is my first car, so we'll just call it a learning experience. Funny thing is that even after all this, I know without a doubt that my next car is gonna be another rex. they're addicting.

lol. damn that sux. luckilly i got my car stock, and thank got they dont make rice for rx7s because most of the stupid people in the world would even know how to crank it up, it seems soo funny when i see one at a dealer ship that " JUST WONT START" and it takes me all of 5 minytes to start it up to their amazement. lol.
like i told soo many firends, its beter to mgive your self headaches than buying other peoples, because then you know what you did wrong. |

well you live and learn. Ive always wanted a rex, and at this point i don't think i'll ever get a chance to find a clean rex i can afford... plus i can only afford one project at a time.

Ya, I'm only 16 tho, so i've got a while to save up for a new one. I'm thinking a white rex with everything basically stock except for a b-swap maybe. But in the mean time it's still a blast to drive when it's working.

Nice man. If I were you, I'd head off to a junkard and see what you can find as far as interrior and tail light go. It looks like a freak'n dreamsicle.
You could always sand down the outside and rattle can it flat black... haha. Good job non-the-less |

I'd say sell most of the interior on eGay and paint the rest black. Buy some of my old interior.. i seriosly want to hurl, no offense :-X :-X :-X Also, sell the Alcheeza's and buy my old tails Glad you're turbo though. :P |

man I feel your pain, I bought my CRX the same way. It had half the interior pieces painted red, which i am fixing on thursday. He had the electronics all ghetto wired and ---- with wires running to the back for an amp. One thing that this car has is a decent paint job (nice gunmetal gray), and some aftermarket 16's with Nitto Neo Gen tires. It also has a ractive intake and 4-2-1 header and some nice custom exhaust. But still overall rice bc of the stickers I still need to take off the quarter windows. We'er together on this one man :P.

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha o ---- and sorry but your seat are not Sparco Tornio seats they are the ebay ones that have been recoverd or he spent the extra 50$ to get them that way ;D other then that good luck with your ride you got riped!!!!! |

when i bought my crx..the dude thought the coolest thing on the car..were the blue strobes in the headlights that he put in.. i almost beat him up..it was the first thing to go when i bought the car

i thought you meant like.. a little orange, and a little white.. not... hey its night time outside but its daylight in the car..
take it out piece by piece and spray it flat black, it wont be reflective. i did mine gloss black.. but it was just speaker grills, and some small things that wouldnt really reflect. (had to get rid of the white) make sure to sand it first though, and it wouldnt hurt to primer it. that is.. if you dont wanna go and buy all new interior.. if you use stripper, it will turn the plastic to a gray color, so you are still stuck with painting it.. or having it look like crap. |

Ya, I want to clean up the interior... How hard is it to get all the peices off and back on? Also, do you still have the same flaking problems as before if you do that?
Also, how can you tell those aren't sparcos? |

Ya, i'll probably end up doing that, but how hard is it to put it all back on? Also, is it only the JDM crx's that on the middle tail light it doesn't say CRX?

#1 any dumb ---- that would recover sparco seats should be beaten slowly to death and then shot and ran over and put 6feet under with his fugly ass new seat #2 the shap is just a lil bit dif #3 that thing you pull on to make you seat reclin yea well sparco dont have that sparco is like vw you have to turn a dumb as knob to get it to go back #4 them cut out were you stick your 4point thro are not the same as the sparcos you refer to i maybe wrong and you have some realy old sparcos that were recoverd but i dont think i am ;D |

when i go to the junkyard looking for my interior, which cars can i take it from? Is the hf, si, etc. interior all the same? How about the tails?

after reading all the problems you had, it reminds me of my car. i had ---- like that before i knew better, but i installed it all right. I sold it to some kid with a blown LS (that i got like that, if i see the kid again hes a dead man). He drove it once, but he blew up the gsr cable tranny (dont ask me how). He purchased it from me for about 6 grand ;)
nice to see its turbo. the outside isnt THAT bad, i would change the interior out tho. Dont flat black the car if its been done like that already, because im sure thats some of the reason u got the car. I will flat black my civic, but its a 91 dx with some rust, and i got it for 170 bucks. |

this is what i would do,
pull out all the interior, everything, then spray some of this on it, http://www.customcivics.com/images/m...ce_be_gone.jpg aircraft stripper does wonders for ricer mistakes, spray it on , and use a high pressure hose to get it off, and just keep doing it till its all normal. |

yea its kinda rice but now that theres some pics it doesnt look as bad as you described it, flat black that mug.. i think the hardest part is going to be stripping that interior though. have fun its prob going to be a bitch.. post up some more pics when you get done and maybee even add some vid.
