my new project

So the story goes: I wake up one day and think "I should part out my crx and buy a 240 and get some traction". So I toss the idea around in my head for a day and decide to do it. In turn I get about ~8k for my crx. Lots more was done to it but here is a general idea: https://www.homemadeturbo.com/forum/...?topic=49121.0

So I started the search for a 240 which is just retarted here, very few and even less that are clean. Im not a fan of the hatchbacks but its all I could find and I had to drive 5hrs to get it in the bay area. Then hit a huge winter storm on the way back to Reno. Forced to buy 2 sets of cables at $100 each to tow the car through the weather. All while I was in a 2wd F150 with no ABS going over Donner Summit. That was probably the most sketchy drive I've ever done, even at 10mph.

Well I got the car back, a decently clean 1989 240sx with power windows/doors and a pop up sunroof. Scratched up rear bumper and 2 broken taillights. Other than that its in pretty good shape. Non running ka24de (the newer s14 motor). I've never even ridden in a 240, nor driven or worked on one so I thought I'd just give it a shot. Motor wouldnt turn over so I started my electrical search. Found the car had an alarm so I de-wired it and the car would turn over. Wasnt starting so I checked the firing order, not good....Needless to say the coil was plugged into the wrong place lol...Fixed the firing order and she started right up. Figured I should do a quick compression check before I pulled the hog out and it did great. So that moves me onto the better stuff.

I figured it would be smart to get some good suspension so I ordered up a set of Apex'i N1 Expert V Coilovers. 32 way adjustable, pillowball mounts, the whole 9 yards. At $1100 the car better handle well.

18" Ray's G-game wheels with 265's in the rear, 225's in the front. Very light wheels for 18's. But at the same time very expensive, especially with $270 a piece rear tires. I'm not one to buy super cool wheels but I figured I may as well do everything I can to get the car to corner. Plus it would be retarted to put $1100 suspension with shitty tires.

Of course the famouse sr20 swap. I thought instead of a tiny t25 I need something a tad bit more capable to hold me over till I get a topmount manifold so I went with a ball bearing t28 (best you can bolt onto the crappy stock manifolds).

I think I'll start out around 15psi on the lil t28 + a 50-75 wet shot. Just have to see what the stock injectors can take with my wideband. I'll get some more pics up and updates, the motor is out, I have a 3 day weekend and have allready stripped the engine bay, started the wire tuck and started to repaint the bay. Should have the motor in by Monday. Im sure there is more, havent picked up the ems yet but thats all I've purchased this week, I think it should be easier to put the power down, the crx with a quaife lsd still had bad traction, hopefully a welded diff will help....

IRS does not mean more traction. Ever last one of those I've seen had real bad wheelhop with stock turbo and the boost not cranked all the way up. If you sort that out, though, you should hook pretty good, and little details like that will make it a joy to drive.

Nice choice in ride.I have been doing a SR swap for a local over this winter and Im really starting to want a 240 pretty bad. That T28 should be nice for instant power down low to do burnouts and donuts. :y Hinson Supercars is just finishing up there LS1 mounting kit for the 240 if you get bored of the SR. :o

its funny, alot of honda guys go to the SR set ups.

BUT

it really sucks to invest over 6 grand in a car and still get beat by a crx with a B16 in it

i have learned, dont get into SR swaps and 240s unless you have some cash to throw out

*edit* - not sure who spends 6k on a stock sr20 swap, more like 2k, and with that remaining 4k you would have a far from stock car.

I guess you could look at it that way. I am totally bias to Honda's over Nissans as thats what I sell for a living. But any open minded person has to admit a few things:

RWD>FWD
Forged internals>Cast
Closed deck>Open deck

With that in mind I think the sr is the way to go vs my lsturbo crx. Of course my crx would beat the 240 as is, but when the topmount arrives and a much larger turbo the car will kill a crx. I honestly just think it will be a much nicer car to drive. Honda's have been lots of fun, but there is more to offer from the Nissan for me. Of course there will need to be suspension work and misc other things to make it hook, but it will be worth it.

270 for a rear tire? Damn what tires you getting? (2)245/40/18 & (2)275/35/18 Nitto NT555's cost me less than $800.oo mounted and balanced out the door.

But the car loos sick. I've been tossing the idea of getting one for a while now too. But my problem is, I can't afford it. Are you gonaa put the Silvia front end on it? :y

you mean nissan guys?

Nice car, you're doing it right so far. Theres a local jamoke with that same car. Recently swapped a sr20det into it. It's the one with the t28 and the car is balls slow. I'm pretty sure hes only running on 3 cyl. :3 Haha idiot.

I've also been thinking about getting one but it seems like the new trend in my neck of the woods. I've actually been toying around with the idea of getting a lexus sc300. Everything you got so far looks mint. :6
