my new possable project

http://memimage.cardomain.net/member...654_2_full.jpg

its not the same car in the pic, but i found a delorean not far from me that im gonna try to get next week, what do you guys think of a HMT kit on a delorean :6

i looked up the motor specs and it says it has 8.8:1 compression on a light alloy V-6 block, so im assumeing aluminum? how much boost do you guys think would be safe? i got a buddy who can get me custom pistons and rods for almost anything for about $700 so i can build it if need be but wanna stay away from that for a while since its expensive as the damn 03 SVT i was looking at

and how would you suggest to route intercooler pipes with the motor bein in the rear? :S

As cool as the Delorean is, its the worst mechanically designed car in history. You'll have a hard enough time keeping it running even without a turbo

The car was designed to smuggle coke into the US

Re: my new possable project

:l ... i've been reading tons of reviews and find very little wrong with it, some problems with the auto trannys, speedo gear going out, and thats pretty much it, seems like it has the same ammount of problems any 20+ year old car would

I think you should first invest your free time into some spelling classes. Learn to speak Engrish.

there is a guy over on probetalk.com that is doing a turbo delorean, it has a single T70 on it and is using megasquirt for engine management.

ive heard they were pretty decently designed, lotus helped with the chassis and they seem to be pretty trouble free. They use some pretty generic peugeot-renault-volvo motor that is weaksauce but a turbo project would be sweet on one.

i have yet to hear anything bad except that they accelerate a little slow and your twos opinions on them, i did read a few reviews that said that brillo pads and metal polish would be a must constantly from finger prints and small knicks but thats no big deal to me, i wash my car every week or two max anyway

thats one thing that i liked finding out is that lotus helped with the chassis and suspension, and the volvo motor as long as it doesnt grenade too quickly isnt much of a big deal as long as it responds to the boost well enough

i read alot of people are swapping in V-8's but i'd rather keep the stock motor in it for as long as i can

haha priceless, i've heard theres a small problem with the undercoat cracking and rusting the frame but that shouldnt be too hard to have redone if it needs to be

i love back to the future...and i wouldnt ever buy one of those cars because i think they are hideous. if it cant travel through time its useless to me. Buy the 03 cobra, run 10s with bolt ons and call it a day

i like the look of them, and i'd buy the cobra, but everyone around here has a damn mustang and i want something diffrent

wouldnt be another delorean within a 300 mile radius of me, i like the idea of that :y

plus i prefer turbo to a supercharger and would rather make it run 10s myself then just buy a couple parts and be there :6 probably never run 10s in it but still, i like doing my own work to get there

---- you dont need a turbo. All you need to hit is 88mph and then the ---- hits the fan. You can do that just NA. Can you get me a hoverboard for me if you get the Delorian. I got $$ in paypal just waiting for it. 8) Have you checked on just normal maint. parts and the availability of them or the price? Even though I think their cool it's not something I'd ever think of having as a project car or any car. Too weird for me.

i've done some research over the weekend and so far it doesnt look like reg maintinence parts are going to be too hard to get or overly expensive either

Delorean's are freaking sweet. The only one I've seen in real life sounded like ass though, sounded like the exhaust was screwed up :|

I'd say go for the 03 Cobra though man.

i wasnt saying that its from that particular company. but it seems that some people from the factory decided to make a single and twin turbo drop in before the company went under i was reading about how someguy n rx7 club found out that his grand fathers dm,c was twin turboed from the factory :P

well with only 20K original miles it's a bit pricey, but i like it for the fact that i'll never see another one anywhere near me unless i go way the hell out of my way to find one

got ya.. i'd rather just build a turbo setup for it then do a motor swap anyway though, easier in the long run i'd think, wouldnt have to source out the motor and crap which would probably take forever

go drive that cobra, then go drive that old ass delorian. you'll see why your on the rocks.

i've driven a cobra before, my step dad owns one and loaned it to me for a weekend, thats the only reason i even thought about buying one

i know the diffrence between them and wouldnt mind the cobra but am probably gonna go with the delorean for the simple fact i stated above, plus i want a new turbo project

Why don't you buy the Cobra and buy an old Civic hatch to turbo :)

its going to be more than a project. were talking about a 30 year old car, with a company that doesn't even exist anymore and parts that would be hard to find and expensive as hell. vs a car thats 3 years old, and is fast as balls with a pully change.

plus you wont here
"hows that thing pull when you hit 88mph" everyday.

i've had a 30+ year old car turbo charged on the stock motor although it was built, and managed to find parts for that all over by takeing the time to look

i've looked and parts arent that expensive and are still available, i just dont want a car i can see 50 times a day on my way to work

a 30 year old what? was it a delorean?

You might as well buy a vw Scirocco. it puts out more power and its designed by the same guy giorgetto giugiaro of ital design studios.
