An original Y-49 car, and you didn't take it down to bare metal? Bro, you do know that car is going to try and kill you at this point?

FYI, I know -----all about D16Y5 combustion chambers, but if it's remotely like the Y8 then 9.5 degrees @ 10 psi with your CR is too much timing.

This is the first time I've heard anything about this "y-49" business. I'll just keep driving the way I do, and when it's my time to go, it won't be because of the color of my engine bay, lol. :P

I'd say you know quite a bit about the y5 head... y5 and y8 share the same head casting "p2j". The difference is the roller cam follower rocker assembly and cam. If that's still too much timing, care to help a brotha out? I've spiked it with 1.2gal 100oct unleaded with 4-5gal 91oct, so between 92-94oct. I'd like to be able to run straight 91oct, and not worry about timing.

I just went for some rippers, and 4th gear creeps to 14psi I'm seriously going to need to port this ex housing/wastegate flapper soon. But it HAULED something wicked. They always say that it feels fastest right before the big-bada-boom...

I think my R-63 wished it was a Y-49 because I've had the worst god damn luck with it, and apparently so did the previous owners. When I bought it the frame was bent in the rear, the tire on the same side was bent, and the front bumper was fucked up. After I had it for awhile the driver side front wheel decided to fly off and take a dip in the lake, ruined some brand new front end parts. Then I had IACV problems, and within a week my distributor and alternator both died. Oh and don't forget that somewhere in there I got rear ended and pretty much totaled it.

I think when I bring it back to life I might actually have it painted Y-49.

93 octane, 9.5:1 CR D16Y8, on a heat soaked engine @ 10 psi I went from purging coolant into the catchcan and building up a lot of heat in the cooling jacket at 11-12 deg, not purging and temps dropping as power came up at 9 deg, to dropping more heat *mid dyno pull* while power came up even more at 7 deg. A couple of the D-series turboninjas that will share tech agree on 7 degrees, and that you can lock timing @7 until 350+ whp (ElSpool is making ~375 last I heard).

FYI, at 7.5 psi the Y8 was pretty much indifferent to timing. 10-15 degrees ddn't change temps or affect power, so I just left it at 10 and didn't worry about it. For some reason Y8's gather a critical mass of air in the 10 psi range and need a freight train of timing pulled out. *shrug*

Meh, I like them fine. Xenocron tuned an interesting NA one yesterday: P29 pistons, Y8 head, Z6 block, Crower S2 cam, ~131 whp on a Mustang dyno. It was a parts bin special, cam timing was based on power output, and from what I was told it sounded like it had a D15Z1 crank pulley on it because setting base ignition timing was interesting. It's peak power was at 12-13 degrees in the maps, but those figures could be 5 or so degrees low given hw everything was yammed on. Still not a lot of final timing, great engine, makes great power.

Thanks to Chris for the wheels, and also for introducing me to HMT, back in the day. Refurbished those valves for you today, let me know when you need them.

Those are a complete disaster to make. Back when I made that I had no way to bolt it down all the way. I bolt every flange I weld down. That brings back memories.
