geez, i hope not. the crosshatching actually seemed pretty good to me, a pretty good angle, and rather rough.. in that picture, i had the cylinder walls covered with wd40, and my camera kinda takes crappy pictures. who knows, maybe it'll suck. the rings seem to have seated well, it doesnt smoke at all, and i have about 70 miles on it.

It could be just the picture, but it looks incredibly smooth with no hatch marks at all.

This is what it should look like, these cylinders are also caked in motor oil, but you can still see the marks. What type of hone did you use? The stone hones suck and have always gave me problems.

I have had good luck with stone, ball, and machine hones. All can be made to work, i'm curious as to what your cross-hatch actually looked like too though. A good break in is important too so you should know by now if it's an oil burner.

they werent smooth at all...but the flash from the camera really makes them look polished with the wd40..

i have an upclose pic of them before assembly somewhere on my other computer..i'll try to find it. i took a lot of shots of the build, but not many came out too good. i would quick take a shot, and it'd be blurry, etc.

when i start it up, it doesnt smoke at all, so thats re-assuring for me...you got me nervous though jeff! we'll see. i'd estimate the crosshatches were around 45-50 degrees, and pretty rough... i talked to the guy that did my head, and he said he liked the craftsman 3 stone hone..so thats the one i bought. it seemed to do a nice job with my dewalt, and i ran it slowly (rpm wise) and went up and down pretty rapidly, to get the crosshatching. the rings are higher tension rings than stock (i was told), so maybe thats why its good so far.. they didnt seem to smoke ever, even when we first started it.. just clean exhaust. i'll see if i can find the pic of the crosshatching...i want you guy's opinion on it... we'll see how it does tonight when i drive it home from the office....

Nice buildup! I wish my lazy @ss would hurry up and rebuild my prelude motor thats been sitting for like three years now.... some day... some day.. just not today... maybe not tomorow.. but someday..
