Default my little buildup..

this is cut/pasted from ef-honda.com, and its also on HT..i'm just beaming with happiness..deal with it

well, my build has basically finished (long weekend of finishing up/swapping/breaking in). here is a few pics of it. using the same turbo kit i had put together last year, but with a modified drag manifold to stop creep (see video for a close up). i basically ran a tube from the merge to the elbow i had the wastegate on...and welded it all to the cast manifold. seems good. my brother did the final welding..(no pics of that...had it off due to a bit of leakage) it now looks like it came from the factory that way..he can weld cast to thick tubing much better than myself...he's a great welder. (thanks again for the help jeremy)
the turbo is an airesearch .42/.48..rebuilt (but still puking some oil once and a while, even with my restrictor setup....ran it too long without restrictor) i plan on replacing it with a holset hy35..and a bigger cam to spool that faster, along with a custom top-mount manifold i'm starting work on soon, welded by my brother. the intercooler is a spearco semi-sidemount bar/plate (old porsche upgrade)..i rewelded one end tank. i love the look of it, and it's 3'' core seems to cool everything well.
The engine consists of a stock block..honed first with scotchbrite pad and then a real hone (bought the real hone later, not pictured). The engine has ARP head studs squishing a copper sprayed z6 headgasket between the block and rebuilt/milled stock a6 head w/ a skunk2 cam gear. i plan on adjusting the cam gear a bit, when we get it on the dyno soon. a bunch of buddies from chicago are renting out a dyno in chicago for probably a whole day, so i'll spend an hour or so making a nice safe but powerful tune on this thing (Lord willing).

The pistons are SRP's , and the rods are Eagles. i got the rods and pistons from the best fricken guy in the honda performance business, Cody at Lovefabmotorsports....GREAT GUYS.. i'll be buying more from them. Rob even gave me a shirt last time we hung out at gingerman! haha. thanks guys!

Its tuned by our very own splitime and myself, using turboedit software and his wideband (in video), just for a break in. we'll be re-tuning it this weekend for higher boost if all goes well until then. its using a z6 manifold/TB, dsm injectors..stock ignition system minus the msd cap and external coil (i hate honda coils...too many have failed me)

Here are just a fewquick pictures..more to come most likely. here it is before i tore it down. looks almost identical now..just cleaner..less greasy..
here is the block, bare and dirty(even after about 2 hours of scrubbing before dissasembly (last friday).

crappy pic of my block notching for the "big" ARP 3/8'' bolt eagles.

here is the first step (not even necessary now that i bought a real hone) of honing...super ghetto, but i ended up doing it right.. the scotch brite pad left it too polished...the hone did a nice job (see assembled pic below)

here are before and after pics of the head. had about 120k on it...looking good when rebuilt. done by apex in chicago...75 bucks for a mill/new seals/uber cleaning.. super sweet deal from a cool old guy. not shown is the skunk2 cam gear a got for free...had one on an engine laying around a buddies shop.. i know the kid who technically owns the engine (but left it there for a long time now and is never going to do anything with it) and i might give him some cash...if he ever figures out i gaffled it! :-D

heres the old bearings...colors still visable..looking good too, only one score mark on one..nothing on the crank. sized em and orderd new honda bearings.. plastigauged the stuff before final assebly..the rods liked "green" bearings. tolerances were nice.

i used this clutch disc (centerforce sprung 8 puck) with my clutchmasters stage some-----.. grabs nice, should hold well. my organic disc with my clutchmasters PP never slipped with the old setup..and i tracked/draged/street drove it a LOT... this disc has only 1,000 ish miles on it...perfect basically. i sanded the glaze off the PP and the ACT lightweight flywheel, and threw it together. i like the feel a lot, even after 60 or so miles.

here is the final assembly of the bottom end..ARP rod bolts, OE seals/bearings...all new. coppersprayed z6 headgasket...(its not a blockgaurd)

thats about it for now. i have some pics of the rods and pistons..i have to sift through them though... i also balanced the rods and piston asseblies to within .4 gram of each other. they were about 10-15 grams apart. it seems to have aided in making the engine a little smoother.

heres a link to a video of it running. i'm the big guy in the yellow shirt..with the annoying voice on video. splitime is shooting the vid. you also hear blocker in the background laughing and making fun of me. haha

thanks to athiest for hosting the video, and Paul for hosting the pictures! updates too when i get the pictures sorted out, and re-tune the bitch... this week i'll just be driving it around, doing a light breakin. BIG thanks to LOVEFAB, and all my buddies for helping out (especially josh, splitime, john and jeremy) thanks for looking-adam

thanks guys..

i'll be doing a baseline dyno run in 2 weeks i think...at a shops dyno day. my buddy and i are street tuning it as well as we can, then i'll be beating it up a bit. within a month or so we're renting out a local dyno to tune a few cars, and we'll try to get it close to 300 then. hopefully everything goes well.

thanks for the compliment on the bmw wheels too...i love them, and they have a much nicer looking offset than factory honda wheels..or they are wider, i dont know which it is. think they would look better with a grey center? i've had them gold for over a year..

that lip is off a 94 jetta...

some of them had removable lips, some were molded to the bumper...thats a removable. i screwed it to the bottom of my bumper, (you have to ------ it 1/2'' or so to make it work, but its cool cause they are slip-fit in the center, so it looks good)

after screwing it up, i trimmed the backs (by the wheels), and used a few bolts w/washers to make it sturdy, then i used painters caulk on the gap.. not necessary, but it was for mine (my bumper was HIT UP).. after smoothing it out, i let it set up for a while and painted it krylon semi-flat black, just like my moldings/rear bumper, and i love it. the bumper is also trimmed a bit to allow more flow for the intercooler, and the support has been trimmed in teh middle.

i've had the car longer than i've been on there...i bought it may of 2002...been a work in progress, and a semi daily driver.

geez, i hope not. the crosshatching actually seemed pretty good to me, a pretty good angle, and rather rough.. in that picture, i had the cylinder walls covered with wd40, and my camera kinda takes crappy pictures. who knows, maybe it'll suck. the rings seem to have seated well, it doesnt smoke at all, and i have about 70 miles on it.
