My Flaming MailBox **PICS**

6 Attachment(s)
Here is my mailbox that I had to build in school. I also painted it. Hope you like it. Oh we didn't get to choose the color of the flames otherwise it would have been different. Its not real wood. I painted that also.

Weld it to the nearest object, I don't care if it's wood.

Kinda what I thought. Are you doing both sides of the Street Rod course?

crxrx7 01-09-2007 10:27 PM

Re: My Flaming MailBox

I am done with school. graduated in december. And yes I took both sides of street rod because you have to take them together to finish the course.

Huh? They must have changed that since 2001. I only took the chassis fab side. Is Gordon Cossett still heading the department?

Re: My Flaming MailBox

Oh! No, We just called it street rod and chassis fab. They arn't together. they are in two different buildings. I know they go hand in hand.

Holy ------- Christ! 2 separate buildings. They used to both be in the same building with the diesel shop on West Campus. They were adding on tot the end of the then new street Rod and Chassis Fab building when I graduated. That shop ruled when I was there, can't imagine it now.

Wow, looks sweet! Curious to know how/what tecnique you used to paint the wood? It looks real!

Re: My Flaming MailBox

very nice, the wood is ------- awesome, but the flames are a little plain.

crxrx7 01-09-2007 11:23 PM

Re: My Flaming MailBox

You will need a black base to start with. Spray that first and let dry. For the wood you need a marbleizer. Spray it on and let sit for 10 sec then take a sheet of plastic and wad it up loosely. Then drag it over the marbleizer. Do this till you get what you want. You can put knots in it by making a smaller wad and twisting the plastic. then take an old paint brush. Like you would paint a house with but with missing bristles. and detail the grain more around the knot so it looks like the grain is going around the knot. After you have what you want you need to let dry very good. the reason is that if you put the candy over the marbleizer too soon it will lift on you. So the next step is to put only orange candy over it in very very light coats. I had about 13-14 coats. It started to look brown. You could use rootbeer which is even better but all we got to use is orange. then you put intercoat clear and you are ready to flame or do whatever.
If you go to the hobby store they sell cheap bottle of candy. I don't know about the marbleizer but I think that you could use a slow drying silver and get the same effect.

Fork It was really hard to get the tape to turn in such a small area in the first place. Show me up.

Re: My Flaming MailBox

Joseph Davis that is the reason I gave it to my parents to put INSIDE their house. It took only about 6 days to build and paint.

Re: My Flaming MailBox

Yeah, I know, which is why I had to say it.

But, you know it's quality work if you post up to HMT, home of hater-ade, and get a full page of responses before anyone thinks to pipe up with a mailbox baseball comment. Kudos!

Re: My Flaming MailBox

hey what campus did you go to?....i just graduated in december from wyotech also......i took chassis fab and high preformance engines... i got to vote for a mailbox when i was still in school....i voted for the "cleanest" one.... it was a whiteish color with the flat yellow jaggedness going back to the rear of it......i woulda voted for yours though if it was there

crxrx7 01-10-2007 08:31 AM

Re: My Flaming MailBox

yeah thats when I graduted. But I didn't know that they had contest. I wish I would have known. Just to let you know if the pinstrip is jagged it usually means that they couldn't do it the right way.

Re: My Flaming MailBox

Ok answer me this. Why would anyone want to bash a nice looking mailbox like this. I think that I would put out a camara out the first week just so I could catch someone and put them in jail. That would teach you bastards.

That wood looks crazy. I spray painted one of the neighbor kids' skateboards and did my version of marble with ceran wrap, but I can't figure out how I would make it look like wood.

Just come paint the shuttle already.

Nice work.

This makes me wonder, how many HMTers in the Mile-High area? I thought there weren't really any. Most the guys here take ---- to shops and wouldn't change their oil to save their lives.

Re: My Flaming MailBox **PICS**

Well I am one now but I came from nebraska so i don't really count. I did a whole engine swap in the street once in greely when I lived there. All these old people were coming up to me and talking with me about it. The first guy I thought was pissed at me for doing it but he continued to praise me for not being a deadbeat kid. But i will be that kid that cuts you off. >:D
