My 'down2turbo' turbo is toast...
well today i noticed that my car was smoking excesively, and kept getting worse in the day. I poped my hood to check it out and my ebay filter was kinda busted off the rubber coupler thinggy, so i go ahead and take off the elbow to check for shaft play. The turbine shaft had play like a ****! it was clanking around just by wiggling it. I took a closer look when i got home and the compressor housing is fucked.
just my luck, ive been waiting all winter to run at the track, which opens in 2 weeks and this ---- happens. Now i gotta park this bitch till i can get a new turbo.
i really liked this turbo too... i don't think i'm gonna buy another ebay turbo though... any suggestions?
oh by the way, ive only had this turbo for 4 months and no more than 6000 miles.

heh my Down2turbo lasted 15k miles and 6 months. Mine smoke in the am after it warms up. It only leaks when it sits for awhile and the shaft play is NUTS!! It's my fault though for not having a proper PCV setup. high oil pressure killed the seals in the first few months and I just neglected it ( didnt know any better). I thought his turbo was a pos cause from day 1 it spit oul out the casing and now it leaks internaly. Too bad I am way past his 90 days. He will rebuild it for 250 bucks ouch!! I have his number his name is Jason. I would post it but right now hotmail is not responding.

Both bad turbos in this topic sound like other issues killed them--not the fault of the turbo. evosol, didn't you say your filter came off?? Meaning, the turbo was sucking all sorts of bugs, dirt, sand etc. into it? that will kill bearings quickly, and the other one, well, high oil pressure will kill most seals anyway.

well i used a oil resrictor and the oil drain i have is a straight shot into the oil pan. The filter couldn't have been off for more than a day or two. so i dunno what the deal is... i guess its worth a shot to contact d2t.
about a month ago, i did start to notice a little bit of smoke in the mornings or if i sat for a while, and then it would stop after it warmed up. i just figured it was my valve seals, since my head has about 150k.
---- i dunno. all i know is that i feel hella depressed b/c i put in hella time to run it at the track, and now i have no money to buy a new turbo b/c tuition for school is up.
