Damn. I got 570 on the CreditKarma thing. I just paid off two old bank charge-offs like a month ago ($125 and $325). Both companies said they'd report the debt as paid, but f it's just as bad, it seems like this was not the way to go. What should I have done instead, if anything?

I'm also about to start making payments on an old (my first, from 2004) credit card. I owe $750 total and they want $125 a month. The guy said it'd look good on my credit since they'll change the status to "making ontime payments". Is this a good idea?

I'm curious too, some people want me to pay $165 a month on paying a credit card.

time to get rolling...i think my first real card was when i was 22 (although i had a phone in my name for years and one store credit card with a 150 limit, not sure if that matters lol). Im 24 now and got a 720 or some ---- and got approved for a home loan

If you want to improve your credit score, you need to go to http://www.creditboards.com/mambo/ and do a lot of reading. They have template letters to send, will tell you how to get free copies of your credit report and how to get things removed. Each situation is different, but they may be able to help you.

*Might* have trouble. I guess I could say it wasn't a cut and dry open and close loan, but I was still approved and everything worked out. It's always going to be harder to finance ---- when your credit isn't perfect though. No major deal.

I have learned MOUNTAINS of important ---- from that website. That site is full of super smart people who know their ----.


Hmmm....not a bad idea. If you really want to get into credit repair you should check out the creditboards website. I don't know ---- compared to some of the people on there.

I have an Idea, When my account went into collections they kept sending me bill after bill. Eventually they start decreasing and I ended up paying only like 40% of the actual total. Should I talk to the Collection Agency and tell them that if they take the charge off from my credit I will pay the remaining balance?

You have already given them what they wanted. They have no reason to work with you now. Yes, you are offering them more money, but for some reason they don't seem to care about that after they have received the initial payment. Collection companies are bastards and are VERY hard to deal with. I've NEVER talked with one on the phone and NEVER paid them anything. If they get my phone number somehow, I change my number. If they send me mail, I throw it in the trash. Bad ---- can only stay on your report for 7 years. A paid collection isn't going to help much compared to an unpaid collection so ---- them.
