My civic finally turboed :UPDATED:

11 Attachment(s)
i put this here just to get some feed back and show an hf manifold used with ac and power steering. i hope this is the right section to put this in

My setup:
D15B
TDO4 turbo from a VR4
HF manifold
HMT adaptor plate made by me
oil and coolant lines taken off of an airplane
down pipe and charge pipes made by me using cheap pep boys exhaust tubing(for now)
no intercooler(for now)
no name ebay BOV
DSM 450's w/ resistor box
Walbro 255
uberdata on a p28

i plan to get an intercooler soon and use a lot nicer mandrel bent charge pipes. this was just to get boosting and learning

it pulls pretty good on 5psi but there is some missing under boost. i have been massing with my fuel maps some, but w/o a wideband its tough. i only change is very small amounts to keep it safe. later today i am putting one step colder plugs on, NGK ZFR7F11. hopefully that helps

here are the pics, dont flame me too bad, i live in FL its hot enough. lol

Attachment 36925

here are some updates a year after the turbo install. i figured instead of making a new post i would just update this one and i left the old pics to see the difference. the car has also had a full repaint(by me) since the 1st pics. its still black though
i added an intercooler and some nice mandrel bend tubing in place of the shitty wrinkle bent ---- from autozone. i have a nice t3 that will be going in as soon as i get a new manifold, i want something nicer than the HF
some pics are a little blurry and all of the tubing is just tack welded fopr now. tomorrow i will be taking it to work and tig welding it. hopefully there wont be any JB weld on this setup. everything fits behind the stock bumper with only very minor trimming. you cant even tell its there with the bumper on. HMT sleeperness

Re: My civic finally turboed

why the one wire o2?

W O T 12-18-2005 03:04 PM

Re: My civic finally turboed

id be weary of that line running across the manifold, wouldnt be surprised if it melted, nice setup though

Looks good

Scott-EP 12-18-2005 03:16 PM

Re: My civic finally turboed

i used the one wire and disabled the o2 heater with uberdata cause i am too cheap to by a new 4 wire.

WOT: that wire isnt as close as it looks, but i do plan to make a heatsheild either out of stainless or carbonfiber, not sure yet

Hows that ebay BOV workin out?

robs99si 12-18-2005 03:48 PM

Re: My civic finally turboed

that is one small turbo, it looks smaller than a t25.

Scott-EP 12-18-2005 04:15 PM

Re: My civic finally turboed

the BOV seems ok. kinda quiet, but i like being a sleeper. it also seems a little slow to open. i might loosen it up a little

the turbo is pretty small. the guy i got it fmo said it was the same thing as the 13b? from the 1st gen dsm.

it turns out that the miss under boost was the plugs. i had some stock style denso plugs so i got some colder NGk's and that cleared it up completely. runs great. kinda falls off at the top but im sure an intercooler would help that a lot. thats one of my next purchases

all in all for the money i have spent it is a nice power increase and an awesome learning experience. you can read all day long but you still dont know till you do it

Re: My civic finally turboed

good job on the setup. That's a tiny turbo... what do you get max poundage at? again sweet deal ;)

Re: My civic finally turboed

mint dude.. looks awesome

god damn that turbo's small lol

Scott-EP 12-18-2005 04:45 PM

Re: My civic finally turboed

i really appretiate all of the comments. i kinda figured i would get bashed for using such a small turbo, no intercooler, and my choice of tubing.

right now i am getting 5psi. im not sure if my charge pipes are leaking or if the wastegate is only set to 5psi. i am going to make a manual boost controller and see if i can get more. im not going to go too high w/o an intercooler though. i hope to have one by feburary, then i will shoot for closer to 10psi, but try to keep my foot out of it till i can get a z6 built for a lot more boost. i would like to run 15psi daily and 20psi at the track

Re: My civic finally turboed

That turbo is hella small, but atleast your boosting ;)

Re: My civic finally turboed

Nice little set up you have there. Good stuff.

P.S. move your oil line if it touching the manifold. ;)

Scott-EP 12-18-2005 07:08 PM

Re: My civic finally turboed

it isnt touching. its about an inch from it. thats why the orange sleeve is there. they run oil and fuel lines very close to exhaust on airplanes, that keeps it fomr having any problems

Re: My civic finally turboed

i would love to see how u built the adaptor for the actuator cause its been puzzling me on the tdo4/5 cause if i clock the turbo it wouldnt line up

Re: My civic finally turboed

hmmm i wonder what the biggest turbo you could get on that hf while retaining ac with a slim fan. I live in florida to and no ac is not an option when its 98+ degrees out and 90 percent humidity :S

And you kept the AC, not bad. You went baller on the coolant lines!

it falls off at the top cuz of how small the turbo is

Re: My civic finally turboed

some proper tuning fixed the falling off at the top. car pulls hard all the way now.

i did get one from here and im pretty sure it was you. my car has been turboed for a few months now. this was a pretty old topic someone brought back from the dead

HF mani is always automatically OG :6. Godd work!

The flat black owns but painting the inter-cooler will reduce heat dissipation. Nice work though!

Scott-EP 01-07-2007 08:53 PM

Re: My civic finally turboed :UPDATED:

i think the intercooler is plenty big enough where a thin coat of black wont hurt

Tough-guy 01-07-2007 08:54 PM

Re: My civic finally turboed :UPDATED:

^^^Well then a boost run will definately dry the paint faster. Nice show. :6

What about the kid that put window tint in the scoup? I'm sure that affected efficiency.
