My Car Has The Black Death Curse (comp tests)
At the track Friday, making some runs on the new drag radials...
I've decided my car has a curse. First it held too much boost, then it held no boost. Took the internal wastegate bolts off the mounting place on the compressor, and the vaccuum can portion fell off. Super, broken wastegate, just what I always wanted! Even better news I think it took out some ringlands when it broke. 2000miles on that rebuild ::) Oh then I got home and the alarm doesn't work any more. So if anyone wants to come steal a civic, feel free. Column is already broken from the last buy that tried to. Compression test results to follow: 1. 190psi 2. 200psi 3. 165psi (oily cylinder/sparkplug) 4. 190psi guess I only killed one, cylinder had oil in it so im guessing thats why it still test 165psi |
Re: My Car Has The Black Death Curse
Sucks dude. I hate the black death curse, just fixed mine. It's not like it's a hard issue to deal with, it's just a pain in the ass.

Breaking ring lands builds character.

Your cursed. I've been boosted longer then you and I'm only on my second motor. I would probly be on my first still, but you cursed my last one :(

Re: My Car Has The Black Death Curse (comp tests)
yeah i suppose i should just quit.
|
Re: My Car Has The Black Death Curse (comp tests)
You know you can't quit :P Once you go boost you never go back.
Get that ---- fixed and throw on an external wastegate. I have vowed to myself, no more ghetto rigged ----. It's always comes back to bite you in the ass. Ditch that hf mani crap and build a nice reliable setup and be done. |

the only part of the alarm thats under the hood is the horn, and the remote is the problem anyways. |

Wastegates break.

Re: My Car Has The Black Death Curse (comp tests)
you raced with a car and a "broken WG". if you ask me you were asking for a blown motor. ::)
post a picture of this "broken WG" |
Re: My Car Has The Black Death Curse (comp tests)

post a picture of this "broken WG" the wastegate broke during a race. 2 reasons I won't post a picture of it. First, you lack credibility here and I have nothing to prove to you. Second, after showing it to a few guys at work today, I threw it away. |
Re: My Car Has The Black Death Curse (comp tests)
That's how my ---- blew, wastegate physically broke. I think it's a T25 curse ;)

was racing friday night at the local drag strip. last run of the night, noticed a lil bit much boost for a split second toward the end of the run. get up to get my timeslip, and take off toward the staging lanes to BS with some people before I leave and my wg was pops wide open and dumptube starts roarin. I figured it was the normal 14b sticking open that happens once in a while, so i tried to tap it shut to no avail. So I drove home open WG. The next day, I go to the shop and take loose the two bolts that hold the actuator to the compressor, and it just falls off. The arm still connected to the flapper just hangs there. Wastegate actuator and arm in two pieces, bad deal. Lucky for me I had a spare to put on, so I do that and call it good. However on the way to to shop I was noticing some excessive smoke. Cylinder 3 got popped. Looks like the WG got hung up and held closed, so I overboosted, then it sprung free and fell apart completely inside. Make sense now? |

perfecto mundo.

Re: My Car Has The Black Death Curse (comp tests)
wow, that sucks man, i hate when stuff breaks, every time i read a story like this it makes me double think wanting to go turbo...
|
Re: My Car Has The Black Death Curse (comp tests)
lol...kinda like how i blew mine up the second time because my gauge line had a tear in it and i was running twice as much boost as i thought i was for about two weeks. Ive had the wg can break off the mount, but never the rod (i guess that would happen next if i left it that way)

i rebuilt my motor 3 times in less than 2 months, and dave, i'm finally ready to compare broken ringland collections >:D just go forged this time, save yourself the trouble of having to do it again in a month. 20 psi with with 15° of timing on pump gas, no worries here, i would boost more but that's as high as my boost gauge go's :P forged internals and turbo's are like peanut butter and jelly.

Re: My Car Has The Black Death Curse (comp tests)
Internal wastegates just suck, especially for higher boost levels. Oh and when your racing, you should always be watching your boost gauge, thats the only thing my eyes are ever glued to ;)
