my girl had a red one - manual too
it's actually pretty bad *** but they tried way too hard to compete with the 3 series...
all the way down to the orange instrument lights
surprisingly i liked the auto a little better than the stick - theres just something about the notchyness of the gear box that bothered me

I have always loved those. I've heard they aren't that fast, but I wouldn't buy one to be fast. I just like the looks and style of themm. 
Luxury, style, and a small bit of performance works for me. 
You can always make them fast if you need to. I seen one fully built with a moster turbo on Egay sell a few years back for like $30k. It was VERY nice and EVERYTHING was built, not just the motor.
