If you go infantry you can contract with blackwater afterwards, they pay like 400-500 a day in country.

Yeah, and you won't be accountable to anyone either. You can shoot random people and do whatever you want. Now go out there and work on our American image!!! :S

i interviewed with blackwater, was accepted into the program, but ultimately decided against it. war for profit isn't high on my to-do list. i'm happier now than i would have been. i've get enough nightmares as it is, the extra money won't stop that.

I've been doing it for 3 years and i've still got all my limbs. But i can understand, those are the same excuses that i heard from everyone on the east coast when i lived in Halifax. Btw, when you work on a rig, you don't swim in oil all day, just so u know. I've seen crude oil to surface maybe 3 times in 3 years.

Seems to be everyones solution. First off, I've had my day in the oil feild, and I'm done with it. It's not for everyone, I really enjoyed it. Worked for Precision Drilling, on a double. Good times, good money, but I wanted to make something with my life, not tripping pipe all day.

I agree, it's not something i want to do forever, but i don't know too many other places that a high school dropout can walk into a 100k job with no experience. For me it's about making money fast, i moved from halifax making 21k/year 3 years ago, from my 50k house, now i make 75k(i work on a lazy rig, we only work mon-fri) and i'm building a 400k house, with a mortgage much less than that amount. I derrick on a single service rig for Nabors. Everyone i know from back east said they were coming out for 6 months to pay off some debt and then moving back, of about 20 of them, 1 went back east and he's moving back here shortly. It's cold, and sometimes really shitty work, but if you get on a good crew, and get half decent work it's really not bad for $30/hr

Re: move or marines

I was in the marines for 4 years. Infantry battalion. did the whole deployment every 6 months or so. It wasnt bad until I got married. Then getting shot at and seeing good friends/brothers get hit, didnt seem fun any more :3.

So I got out as a SGT after 4 years. 2 years later, I have a good job , new house, 2 kids, wife....I get RECALLED. I leave in MAY of this year. Mid grade marines and officers are getting recalled because of the lack of Marines staying in.

Oh, and once I got out the first time, harder than hell to find a job. All I heard from ppl , where, "with your experience, you'll get a job" BS. It was a good 8 months before I walked into my job now.

I'm in the Army reserves. been in since i was 17 and i'm 21 now. i'm also a SGT. I would choose army but don't lissen to your recruiter because he is going to want you to go infantry or ranger. trust me i know my roomate is a recruiter. hold out for a job you will like. the army has construction jobs. get into the 21 series. but if you want out of that kind of field do communications or something with computers.

also i'm trying to get deployed to iraq with an airborn unit
