Mods to an IS300

Well my girlfriend was lookin for a new car, so I convinced her into an is300 because its a nice reliable car and i'll probably be driving it a good amoutn so I didnt want something to crappy or slow. It is a decent car but it needs to be quicker. Its also an auto, what mods can i do to it to make it faster besides a turbo kit. I gotta keep this bitch reliable. I was thinking an intake and headers, but i dont know anything past that, or if it'll throw a code or anything.

Re: Mods to an IS300

Yeah, thats probably all im gonna do. cold air intake, headers, downpipe, exhaust. Just make it a bit quicker.

SRT shift kit
Intake / Header / Exhaust. Best mods my buddy did to his. Shift hard

Re: Mods to an IS300

Dont touch a cold air intake. Your will not be able to tell a difference in power you might be making from a cai to a ram air intake and it could save your motor from hydrolocking. Believe me, my friend hydrolocked a single cam zc with his beloved cold air intake. now he runs a ram air and cant feel a difference at all.

It never rains bad enough here to hydrolock a car. Unless youre trying to find puddles you wont come across them.

stock air box ftw! I rock a HKS filter in a stock airbox :y

I'm thinking about buying an IS300 myself, but I want a 5spd wagon. 8) So it might be time to sell the del sol, EK, and the rest of my honda stuff.

Re: Mods to an IS300

but since your stayin reliable,exhaust..intake,headers......ecu flash???some stickers 5 hp a peice :8 :8 :y :6

Re: Mods to an IS300

I got one....they're ok....nothing too fast. I just cruse in mine. Keep it smooth and clean. I have an L-tuned kit, lowered on bilsteins/prokit, K&N drop in filter, and an apexi ws exhast. Rides like stock. Look on the IS forums. If you want speed.....turbo or sc is the way to go. I kept mine pretty stock and clean......it isn't for speed. GL

scottsi 05-22-2008 03:54 PM

Re: Mods to an IS300

I know is not for speed but I want another 20-30hp. A bit more power, reliability is very important since its my girls DD. Probably just do intake headers downpipe and exhaust. This car has a really short first gear so it accelerates pretty nicely.

ProzacOverdose 05-22-2008 04:02 PM

Re: Mods to an IS300

this guy mad his own headers that were making more hp then any header out there. He's producing and selling them now. Look up Mazzuri headers. Intake wise...seems like SRT's intake with the shield and ecu piggyback is the ticket. Easy hp for you there.....but both those together....depending if you're installing or not, will be about 1000-1500. Its not cheap to play with lexus. Its not like the parts are more quality....they just sell ---- for more. But yeah...I love my IS300. Its perfect, a bit of luxury, style, and quality. Heres the site I'm at...just so you can get more info.

Re: Mods to an IS300

hahahahah....Its TRUE!!

But the usdm SUPRA 2jz-tt don't fit. But he wouldn't know that. You can make it fit...but its not worth the trouble. But the Arista 2jz-tt will bolt right in. You'll just need to run a stand alone and you're good. But then...everything is easier said then done.

Re: Mods to an IS300

Its not my car dickholes. I'd never buy an IS300 and try and make it sooper fast, besides that fact it looks like and is a girl car. V8's over anything anyday. I just want to make it a little quicker for passing power on the freeway, and incase we see another IS300 to smoke.

Re: Mods to an IS300

Putting a CAI on it will cause it to lean out because of the stock MAF specs in the ecu, exhaust with anything besides the stock cat will cause it to throw code.

You can pull the battery and "reset" the ecu with the MAF settings the car had experienced, as well as drive it hard for a period of time then pull the batter/fuse right after. The car "remembers" how it was revved/shifted at and will adjust timing accordingly, also compensating fuel.

Eventually it "remembers" it's outside stock settings and will give a lean condition again.

Happened on my friend's IS300 before he went with turblow.

I've always loved the IS300. They're not the fastest cars in the world, but they're pimp IMO. No need to be the fastest car on the road when you're cruising in your heated leather seats with the moon roof open listening to (insert your favorite music). :6 The ricer in me wants a yellow one.

Re: Mods to an IS300

I have heard guys running whay you suggested plus maybee a cam gear too that was tuned with the e-manage ultimate. Supposedly the ecu is very hard to thwart, but I can't imagine 40-50 or so hp could not be had with just bolt ons or a low pressure turbo. Is it that sensitive? gas milage from my experience: 20 city, 25-27 hwy. The build quality is very good and is suprisingly easy to work on/maintain.

edit: Try: isfanatics.com too.

Re: Mods to an IS300

This thread makes my brain hurt a lot. Between Scott needing to ask the forum about the typical IHE boltons to the suggestion that a CAI will ---- with the MAF, my brain is just about ready to explode.

IS300's are pretty sick looking cars, expecially for the price and its a great platform to start from.

Auto or not. The tranny's are solid upwards of 450 on stock with a shift kit. over 1000hp with the SRT built tranny (retails 3k can be easly had for 2)

My buddy is building his right now, 01 auto
