Re: Mineral Oil PC
i will make myself usefull in this post.
#1 im assuming that the fns are all thermally speed controlled. if his components are submerged in oil, the thermister in the fan doesnt have to spin allot. infact it will spin very slowly. the oil cools the components more than the fans will. so if he has them mounted, no problem, if not, even better. #2 putting a hd in there is a no no since they have breathers in there to compensate for heating up of the internal air. if you find a hd you will notice that it might have a sticker that says do not cover hole or do not tape over. if you do get oil in it, your seek times will drop dramatically, and the rpms will drop dramatically. also, its not good for the motor. #3 water can also used. but be warned. even distilled water might be a bit risky. i would use penta water since it was manufactured electrolosis and its basically the purest water you can buy. its basicall cleaner then distilled water. water has ions that are very happy and want to bond, so when you ad like a salt or something in it like a particle, it will start to conduct. not on a massive grand scale, but it will. i suggest soaking your components iun a rubbing alchahol bath and then letting them dry in a very humid place to prevent dust particles from setling. then i would submerge it in water. the reason why this works is because when the oil heats up, it gets carried to the top, cools off, and drops below the hotter poil. this cycle happens pretty quickly and is very good, but water is a tad bit better, but instead of using expensive water and cleaning, they use oil since it cant conduct electricity with any particles in it. some people put food coloring and even neon lights in their tanks. |
