the difference is in your topic title, megasquirt IS an ECU.

Re: Megasquirt EFI ECU

a megasquirt is a completely stand alone ecu. its like a haltec or a motec. the main advantage of megasquirt is that its open source. meaning its cheap, and fully upgradeable.

now your saying... well... so what? well. you build it yourself. from scratch. it costs less than 1/4th the proice of a regular stand alone, and yet can still do all the things a stand alone can. its amazing. plus since its open source and you like coding, you can view the entire code, and edit or change anything you want or disslike about it.

I've heard good things about Megasquirt. But for hondas I hear the freeware is better.

i know im bad at fractions but 1/4? 1200bucks for a stand alone....150 for a MS....think that comes to about 1/8 the cost :P

for Honda's i would try my hardest to use Uberdata/Crome cuz it will do what you need it to and is easier sence it was suppost to be there. but on other cars like say my GTI that came with some severly homosexual engine management (CIS? lol) Megasquirt is a great idea...

i just wanted to point out the 140(kit) and 270(complete) prices are for megasquirt v.1 which only controls fuel. it can control spark with mods though. and they wont have ms v.2 until the summer. v.2 can control fuel and spark

Its actually $170 to build the whole thing. I just completed my first kit. I bet the person who's advertising followed my link in my sig from posting on the Megasquirt forums. Here's all the info you need: http://www.bgsoflex.com/megasquirt.html Its the perfect fuel management for any non Honda application. Comes complete with a 2.5 bar map sensor.

If anyone doesn't feel comfortable building it I'll build you the entire thing for $250.00 shipped guaranteed to work.
