Yeah, I use a cable box. I "think" it has a coaxial out. I hope so...

Ummm I could be wrong because I've never tried, but can you get a good HD signal through coax, if at all? They're pretty low quality...

I'd find a card with hdmi, component, or dvi inputs. I think they make hdmi/dvi adapter cables.

Yes, you can get a perfect HD signal. HD broadcasts are digital, and use less bandwidth than analog channels so coax has no problem with it.

Almost every single tuner card out there has at least one coax input.

I can get DVI/HDMI adapter cables. Do these "HD tuner cards" just read the ---- in, or do they work similarly to a cable box? The card won't replace the cable box, will it? ---- I gotta do some more research, work sucks :P

Can you plug the coax straight into your tv or do you need the cable box to decrypt the channels? I'm guessing the latter.

In that case, you typically hook up an output from your cable box to the tuner card (same connection you would plug from the box to your tv, the tuner card acts as a tv). You can also use an IR blaster so the computer can control the cable box and change the channel, say if you have something to record when you're not home and the cable box is on the wrong channel.

Digital cable??? If so youll need an =ATSC tuner in addition to a NTSC tuner, but MCX is configureable to use the set top box as well.....

Holy ---- BDV, I'm having to look up all these terms you keep spitting out :P

Yeah, I have digital cable now, don't know about my new place. I'm going to wait to order ---- (except monitor and hard drive) until I move.

It sounds like this will cost alot of money. But i am interested in running one as well as i have a desktop that i don't use anymore and i don't have a problem throwing some new cards in it.

BUT what is so different then me plugging my laptop into my 52" bravia xbr5 via the hdmi out on my laptop?
I do that all the time and its 1080p and i have an external hard drive plugged into it.

So what is the difference?

It's the same thing.

I just want to have the cable go into my comp so I can record ----/watch tv and such from my monitor.
