So you're saying just get a 360 elite and use Media Center to play files over my computer? I'm trying to cut down on ---- in my new place so I'm consolidating to one PC (to serve as both gaming on my LCD comp screen and my media player on my TV).

If you game... Yes, the 360 is a SOLID extender...... It would be a good dual purpose solutipn for you reducing clutter... If youre not hell bent on the HDMI and can live with component... you need only the regular 360, I can hook you up with the connector should you need it.

Any 360 with a harddrive should work with media center...maybe any 360 period. The only bad thing about media extender is that it doesn't play a majority of the stuff you'll find on bittorrent...but then again they've added supported codecs since I last used it, so maybe is fine.

I have no problem plugging ---- directly in. I don't need a baller wireless media player extender. I was honestly just going to use my TV as a video out (component) and use VLC to play my files :P

I would just try it out and see how it goes. I'd *think* your comp would be able to handle HD, but not sure because I've never used that setups. There are cheap motherboards that have integrated video cards that can easily play HD and handle most modern games pretty decently as well, jago could tell you which one because I always forget.

I would just try it out and see how it does.
