Mechanical Oil Pressure Gauge

I ordered an electronic oil press. gauge and i opened it up and its mechanical...something about hot oil inside my car makes me weary incase the line breaks....should i use it.. or do you think i should return it and get an electric one..

whats the best way to hook it up (the instructions kinda suck)....tee off block to turbo and another tee to gauge then to sensor??

didn't you pay more for an electrical one anyways?

Nope, i went through the book (its through parts at my work) and got him the right serial number but i guess he just went on the keystone website and checked off oil pressure mechanical...so i paid for mechanical like 50 bucks

u got jacked. local parts store sold me mech gauge for like $30, and another $10 for the autometer brass line upgrade kit (that peice of ---- plastic one is gay, buy the brass line TRUST ME)

I say return it and get the electrical gauge.

I would be nervous running a mechanical. I mean, if you get in an accident and that gauge breaks you could have hot oil all over your face.

Chances are you will be fine with the mechanical, but to me, it's worth the extra few bucks.

I just dont want to be waiting for the new one to get in...i already postponed my build...

..im just nervous, is anyone running a mechanical and how has it been..?

if i built casing around the line right between gauge and firewall i figure it should be alright if failure occured.

Re: Mechanical Oil Pressur Gauge

that's why u get the brass line.. no bends or breaking, and if u got into an accident it would break in the engine bay, not ur cabin

i put a mechanical in like a month ago, never had a problem 8)

did you get hooked up for $50? if so, and it's just a regular mechanical non-bling gauge.. that's really expensive... i've always ran electric ones instead of mechanical ones... so if it's not too much trouble, i'd say trade it

mechanical > electric

Yeah, a mechanical with a metal line is pretty good.

I run a mechanical oil press. gauge. Just slide a piece of vacuum line up over the plasitc line all the way from the firewallto the gauge and zip-tie it tight so it doesnt come off. You can run the vac. line all the way to the block if you really want to.

Mines had the nylon line it came with for 2.5 years now, no prolems. Well once, but I had a HUGE pre-turbo exhaust leaks and melted the line and my timing belt cover. I don't fear running the nylon hose. We've done it for years also on my dads car with no probs either.

The plastic line will be fine if you route it right. Getting a metal line is a good idea though. This just reminded me that my buddy recently was installing a o/p gauge in his old Mustang for another guy, and he didn't tighten down the fitting on the back of the gauge before starting it. It dumped about a quart of 10W30 on the floor before he noticed it... ;D
