Thats what I was going to say. Probably cheaper and a lot cleaner to just buy a gun and some cheap paint.

What are you using to protect your flat or satin paint? Did you spray a satin clearcoat over that?

Straight Mineral Spirts work wonders as does a 2000 grit sandpaper or a red pad for the body guys. ....or is it the black pad?

Re: For the lovers of all things flat black

After seeing the jeep, and hatch I definately think I will eventually paint a car I own flat black they look good but not like too attention grabbing. But I would spray a clear coat on that at least one coat of clear. Over time the sun will make it fade, and rain and stuff will scrath right through to the red. At the very least wax it for some protection.

Yes water will scratch it, the H20 compound is very abrasive. You should protect it with wax designed for gloss finished cars it, will look like a monkey attacked your car with a stick of butter but at least the 50 dollar paint job will be protected.

< $1.50 / can?
Lot's of streaks. With another coat and better tips, it would actually look decent.

But from the looks of it, the red paint was much worse off.

Re: For the lovers of all things flat black

.98c a can at lowes, plus tape and paper. Everything all said and done was around $23 bucks. The hood is a little streaky, but other than that it's pretty decent the rest of the way around

Did you thin it down? If so, what ratio?

TorganFM 04-18-2008 10:45 PM

Re: For the lovers of all things flat black

I'd be worried of spraying that satin and not having a satin clear and it getting all fucked up and faded in a couple years. At least with a Rustoleum gloss black you can buff the ---- out of it if it fades or scratches.

Yeah you have to thin it down a lot or it sprays like ---- out of the gun. IDK the ratio i just did the "thats about right ratio" :8

sorry that was a typo what I meant to say was rain will wash away paint and over time, and stuff will scratch it and yes wax will protect the paint because its something covering the paint. If he cared what it looked like he wouldn't pay $50 to paint it in spray paint. But protecting it a little better will keep him from having to paint up scratches every other week. think about it dumb ----.

por 15 rocks but it doesn't get along with sunlight unless you use the topcoat stuff

widebody93 04-19-2008 10:32 PM

Re: For the lovers of all things flat black

You can use Dupont base black paint and a mixture of 2:1 dulling agent in the clear to get the same effects but with a actual UV protected clear coat. THATS WHAT I DID and no fading at all.
