Looking for a new car, how bout some suggestions?

Hey guys, it's time for me to buy a new ------- car...and I don't want some lame ---- that I'll want to sell in 3 months after owning it, like the current piece I have.

The car I have now is old, ugly, not really fast. Really it does me no service other than getting me from point A to point B reliably (usually) and safely in a timely manner. It doesn't do bad on gas either. Recently there have been a ton of maintenance problems and the bills are stacking up for that ----.

What I have now: 1991 Honda CRX HF, almost 200k miles. It has pretty much a brand new front end under it a few hundred dollars later, and a B16 swap with approxomately 70k miles now. It's missing the driver side fender after a minor accident, and there is NO rust on the body.

What I'm looking for: Something 2000 or newer, looks decent, and it would be a positive if it were fast or could be made fast. I'm not looking to spend more than $20,000 but I'd like to spend closer to $10,000. Also, rear wheel drive is a requirement. I'm tired of this gay ass front wheel drive bullshit. I would prefer seating for more than two, but whatever.

Basically right now I'm looking at Mustangs and Corvettes. I don't think I'd be able to afford a Z06 or an 03-04 Cobra, so I'm looking at regular vettes and GT mustangs. In my area GT mustangs can be found for $10,000 to $20,000 depending on the year, miles, and condition. What I'm thinking is pick up a cheap GT mustang and boost it. Anybody know how those motors hold up?

My other choice was to wait a few years and pick up a used '05 GT cause honestly I kind of like them, but for that money I could probably pick up a used Z06.

Anyway I've found a few decent condition decent miles Corvettes in my price range, but I know for a fact I would be craving more after a short period of time. Luckily for me, Lingenfelter's shop is less than 200 miles from me...but that's expensive.

So can anybody else give me some more input? The car doesn't nescessarily have to be domestic or have 8cyl, but I am looking for a performance car since I'm young and stupid. Financing and money isn't an issue as long as the total cost for the car is less than 20 grand.

Nissan 350Z,Infinit G25 coupe,Mustang,GTO[not sure what they go for].That would be my list.A used C5 would be first but are you sure you can get one under 20?

Re: Looking for a new car, how bout some suggestions?

Yeah I had my eye on Z's too but the TT 350Z's I've seen seemed...slow.

GTO's IIRC are a good ways out of my price range...plus they're pretty ugly IMO.

I would look into http://www.houston-imports.com/forum...d.php?t=303003 before purchasing a Mustang. Essentually Ford is suing anybody using the Mustang name. Pretty much all the Mustang aftermarket.

Re: Looking for a new car, how bout some suggestions?

wel;l i see that you ruled out good gas milage in your search, but in ruling that out you allow the option for RWD, when i bought my 04 GTP i needed decent gas, fwd or rwd, prefer rear but i chose front, and it can be modified to be decently quick and still be swapoed out to be under warranty. its pretty idiotic to buy a new car under warranty and put some ---- on it and blow the ------ engine up unless youre made of cash.

Not that they are the easiest cars to work on but 90+ 300zx's are sexy as hell and can make 400hp+ all day long on some larger turbos and decent fuel map.

Re: Looking for a new car, how bout some suggestions?

S2000's don't do anything for me...I dunno what it is about them, I just don't like them.

Seeing as how this probably won't be my daily driver and even if it is I don't drive very long distances...gas mileage can go to hell. I'm tired of settling for less when it comes to cars (that is, front wheel drive and naturally aspirated motors). It's time for something fun, god damnit.

No, I'm not selling the CRX as it doesn't cost me ---- to keep it, and I have so much money into it, that the price I would ask for it would just be ridiculous.

I definately considered 300ZX's but it's hard to get a loan on something that old. The Lexus IS 300 is an attractive option, however.

I'll definately read up on that article you posted, thanks for the link.

Edit: I just finished reading about that lawsuit...totally gay but none of those lawsuits will hold water in court because of what some of the members mentioned. How are you going to sue somebody for naming their company after a horse? It just so happens that Ford named a car of theirs after that same horse.

Besides...who needs aftermarket parts to make an HMT kit? All of the companies I know of for Mustang turbo parts don't have the word Mustang in their name...so it's cool with me, this will just help drive the resale value of Mustangs down if it gets big.

So you've got a pos car now, and you want to take a loan out so you can have a "new" car, that really isn't new? That sounds like a good idea ::)

You're a pansy if you think your CRX is getting too old for you, and ugly? I think not. JD's an old fart and still rocks the old Honda's.

I'd say go for a Pontiac Solstice GXP when they come out in the fall. 260 hp turbocharged 2.0 I4 RWD FTW. :)

srt4 fwd but still gets decent gas mileage, comes boosted, factory uprgrades, faster than mustangs and camaros stock and insurance probually won't rape you like it would with the other cars you listed. Have you checked on insurance prices for these cars yet? I was considering a newer car as well and a loan but once I checked insurance prices I decided to drive my old cars and mod them untill I get old and grumpy enough to get cheap insurance.

not the easiest, ha, that is a COMPLETE and TOTAL understatement, to do anything to the ------- car its a pain in the ass, if you have big hands you better pull the engine out to do anything, and despite the low cost of a decent 90+ tt ( 8-12k) to make it fast WILL cost alot and you cannot HMT it unless youre super pro at fab, few have done it and it worked out well, but the clearances and tolerances are super ------ tight. besides to upgrade the injectors its 1000 dollars for nismos and there are SERIOUSLY ZERO other options for 90-94, they have venoms which are 400, and being the low budget HMTer i am i bought them and installed them 4 ------- times before figuring out they were fucked up, and installing the injectors require quite a deal of work, much less the turbos, the ------ turbo's are impossible to get to without the engine removed, inorder to make that car a 450-500hp car you need
1000 for injectors
2500-4000 for turbos
800-1400 - intercoolers
400-1000 - feul control

then to put that to the ground you'll need
clutch 400-600
flywheel 350-500
driveshaft 200-400

and THEN you need some tires to stop the nonstop wheelspin, and ofcourse you cant fit bigger than 245's on the rear tires, and even with 245 drag radials i could still spin then first gear with stock injects, stock turbos @ 14psi

and then all the other BS, intake, boost controller, rims to put bigger tires on, expensive big tires, etc etc

its a shitload of work and depending on your bidget may or maynot be worth the time/ money but if you did all of the above mentioned work, with a good driver, it would be a low 12 second high 11 second car, and if you threw in some 4.09 gears, stock are 3.69, mid 11s? high 10s?

---- i got a Z sitting right here with a buncha ---- on it with a blown headgasket, but ive done too much work on that car and have completely lost motivation to do anything else to it.

oh yeah, srt4's are gay, domestic needs to stay out of the sport compact buisness

Re: Looking for a new car, how bout some suggestions?

I don't by any means think CRX's are ugly, old Hondas are cool and all...but mine is ugly.

It's definately not a chick magnet...that's kind of what I'm going for here because my car is a love/hate type thing with the girls right now. Either they're like "Oh ----, you have a CRX! That's so cool let's go have sex in it." or they're like "You drive that red piece of ----? I'm calling a cab."

Might not be the smartest financial investment, but goddamnit I'm young and I'm gonna live a little before I die, so don't lecture me about how I'm getting rid of one piece of crap for another. I don't care ;D

Anyways I'm leaning towards the Corvette or the IS300 right now, problem is they're both towards the higher end of my budget which is never good...so the Mustang is still on the table. I've got plenty of time to think about it...but it's always nice to have outside opinions...so keep them coming.

Re: Looking for a new car, how bout some suggestions?

Other then the fact that you have to spend 300 to 500 dolalrs for payment on a new car, ever think about the insurance? the gas?

and if you are buying a new car just to impress girls and carry them around...er :l.....i don`t know what to tell you :1

BTW for 20K you can think about (RWD AND AWD, some of them are big sedans LOL)

E36 M3, IS300, S2K, WRX STI/ WRX, evolution, Supra, RX7, SC430, LS400, Q45 ....

oh and those 91 ish NSX is going for 15000ish right now 8)

there are no USDM car in my list not becasue i hate the car, but simply becasue i hate the way they look :l ,

N1ghtM0nkey 06-16-2006 04:34 AM

Re: Looking for a new car, how bout some suggestions?

Yeah I took the payment, gas, insurance, all into consideration. I can't afford it at this point in time but seeing as how I'll be putting more than half of the total amount of the car down, I won't be taking a very big loan and the payments won't kill me.

I've been thinking about just saving for a few months and buying an older (but not pre '99) Mustang GT to take care of the loan situation...since I would be paying in full up front. I think that sounds like the most attractive option, but I'll be able to afford to make payments, insurance, and put gas in it as long as the price tag is kept below 20 grand.

And it's not just a car to impress the girls, I mean not everybody likes to drive around a beater all the time...which is what my CRX is quickly becoming. Girls...another reason why a back seat is a definate plus. Kind of rules out a 350Z, Corvette, S2000, and a Supra too right? I've never been in a Supra.

That Tercel is hott. :-*

Anyways I pretty much fell in love with the Audi S4, and I found them *close* to my price range in my area. I'm talking about the 2000 to like 2003 versions with the twin turbo V6. Here's a few pics I found on cardomain that I liked.

http://memimage.cardomain.net/member...663_1_full.jpg
http://memimage.cardomain.net/member...952_2_full.jpg

I've always liked these things, I just never thought they were anywhere close to my price range. I'm loving the twin turbo aspect of it, and I've seen dyno sheets and time slips on car domain of 400+hp and 11.2 @ 126mph.

Here's one of the videos http://downloads.mike1023.com/pafile...download&id=22

Re: Looking for a new car, how bout some suggestions?

v6 twin turbo would be an S4 but they don`t seems to be making too much power out of a turbo 2.7 v6 (250 horse 260 tork):l

might as well spend a little more on the v8 version or even a 02 +S6 8)

Man VW and Audi make some pretty bad ass cars. My only problem with them is that when they break you get it broken off in your ass. :8

One of my friends had a 03 GTI 1.8t. He traded it for a Coooper S. :l

IMHO the dub was way better. :y
