Leeeets get it onnn (PICS) (updated x3)
Since i spun a bearing in my old motor (b18a1 w/ b20b head and intake manifold) i decided on buying a jap b20b. buuuut they didnt have any at their warehouse and they were $995... So i said ---- it and bought a jap b18b for $845. i Dont know if that is a decent price, i dont really give a ---- i just needed the motor asap, and if i'm gunna force air into it, it doesnt really matter anyways right... I pop'd the valve cover and the engine looks mint inside... so i didnt get a fake low miles motor... hopefully. but a comp check will clear all that up...
There she is... it came off a auto integra so i took the flex plate off and put my flywheel on... also took the injectors out and put my b18a injectors in (for short time, have 450cc injectors comin in the mail). Also put on my b18a throttlebody. Also have to take off the crank pully and timing belt covers to put my motor mount on... annnnd also have to use my b18a dist...annnnd gotta use my b18a exhaust manifold if i want it to bolt to the exhaust... i think the b18a anmd b18b exhaust is the same pattern... gotta check that out ;) https://www.homemadeturbo.com/jbliss/int_new1.jpg heres the emtpy engine bay, decently clean for a 91 integra with 230k miles on the chassis... https://www.homemadeturbo.com/jbliss/int_new2.jpg Heres a lot of my old ----, no real use for most of it. gunna hit the scrapyard soon... unless some people need some ----... like a fucked up crankshaft, or a block with a bunch of peices of bearing in all the passages. the pistons and rods might be ok... the b20b head and intake are fine... https://www.homemadeturbo.com/jbliss/int_new3.jpg also one of my baseball buddies is an idiot and all of a sudden says my subs sound like ----. so he gives me his amp for 50 bones, and gives his two kenwood 10s to another guy, and that guy gives me these two subs... sounds pretty good. its def an upgrade from my 220 watt jenson amp & single 10 explode i had before... https://www.homemadeturbo.com/jbliss/int_new4.jpg annnndd for all those people out there who say a b20b head and intake manifold isnt an upgrade over a b18a & maybe a b18b head & intake... and that the b20b head has small ports. here is a pic of my b20b head and intake manifold. the ports look pretty big to me... https://www.homemadeturbo.com/jbliss/int_new5.jpg annnnnnd i also bought a rebuilt super 60 turbo & 10psi internal wastegate $420, some dsm 450cc injectors $60, a 250ft-lb clutch from 88 turbo crx $240, a aluminum core radiator $140, tranny cooler to be used as an oil cooler $40, and i also have some stuff left over from before. like my JRC 6' intercooler, and a probe bov... also goin to use TE with dave's help ;) ohh and i believe beau is goin to make me a manifold to replace my 1st gen beau beta .1 ram head (aka block hugger) turbo manifold https://www.homemadeturbo.com/jbliss...ntercooler.jpg https://www.homemadeturbo.com/jbliss...ra_motor_T.jpg https://www.homemadeturbo.com/jbliss/b_setup_2.jpg Should be fun. lookin to make some decent numbers for a stock engine... remember what we aways say.... DON'T... GET.... ELIMINATED! |
Re:Leeeets get it onnn (PICS)

Re:Leeeets get it onnn (PICS)

Re:Leeeets get it onnn (PICS)
Holy ----, your old motor is exactly what I am building right now. I wanted to build a motor for dirt cheap, so I picked up a b18a shortblock (although the junkyard left pretty much everything on there) for $150 and then I got a b20b head w/ls intake and tb for $130.
How did you like the motor? I figure it'll basically be an ls motor for under $500 with way low miles on the head. |
Re:Leeeets get it onnn (PICS)
hahaha, dejavou, i did the exact same swap in my 93 teg, it was black too, my pics look exactly like yours (i would post them but don't want to jack your thread), that's funny, i mean the same exact pics ;D you'll notice a nice difference with the b18b, i sure did, it revs a lot quicker, i'm assuming due to the i.m. and cams, but it was nice to go to a low mileage b18b from a worn out b18a. looks good ;D i thought i thought switching the driver side mount was easy, but i left the ribbed crank pulley on and used it with my v belt, worked fine HMT style ;) :-X

Re:Leeeets get it onnn (PICS)
fyi, its easier to leave the harness attached to the engine when taking it out, 5 plugs and the harness is off the chasis. ;)
good luck johnny |

good luck johnny i just use all my existing b18a odb0 stuff and just switch dist and injectors.. right? ;) i also switched the TB just because the b18b tb has the MAP on the TB and some other ghetto sensor i dont care about |
Re:Leeeets get it onnn (PICS)
Use the B18b throttle body its 2mm bigger, and the map sensors are the same, just in a different spot.
|
Re:Leeeets get it onnn (PICS)
yeah, either extend the wires from your firewall to the new map sensor, or run a ghetto vacuum line from the t.b. to the firewall, i suggest making the wire longer, that way you have one less chance for a vacuum leak.

Re:Leeeets get it onnn (PICS)
The wires are long enough ::)

Re:Leeeets get it onnn (PICS)
if you notice the pulleys on the b18a are a 'v' shape, the ones on the b18b (the one i had anyways) were a ribbed style, therefore require a different kind of belt than what's on the b18a. this is why you have to use the crank pulley off the b18a. or you can just mismatch and have a ribbed style crank pulley with a v style belt and other pulleys (the rib belt is too wide for 'v' pulleys). i suggest changing it though, the only reason i didn't was because i didn't even notice until after the engine was in (too much beer).

Re:Leeeets get it onnn (PICS)
Hey sorry to tell you this but that company gave you an USDM version B18B. J-Spec B18B don't have honda motor co. They say plain HONDA MOTOR....... NO JSPEC MOTOR HAS CO. maybe i'm wrong and the person who tough me this is an ediot. Please correct me if i'm wrong. Hey nice setup thought.. thats gonna be a sick setup when your done. i pretty much had the same thing. b18b boosted.

Re:Leeeets get it onnn (PICS)
and my usdm doesn't say 'motor co' on it. i don't think theres any rule behing the valve cover myths, i think they just put whatever the ---- the felt like putting on that particular one

Knock sensor or radiator fan thermo switch?

Re:Leeeets get it onnn (PICS)
As already discussed johnny, That is the Fan switch on the back of the OBD0 B18a block. The OBD1/2 B18b blocks dont have it there, But the plug/spot is there. If you dont have a socket to take that ---- off, the obd1/2 uses the fan switch right off the radiator hosing (off the back) its a 2 pin brown plug. You just need to extend the wires from the back of the block to that sensor (and find a connector that will go on) the wires can be either way, so no big deal.
and btw B18a/b's & B20's dont have knock sensors. Jeff |
