Knee surgery this coming Tuesday.

Awesome, so the other day I had it confirmed: I tore the Miniscus in my left knee and they're going to try to sew it back together on Tues 15th.

The injury initially happened 4 years ago, I was skating at Robb Field skate park in San Diego trying to impress this really hot asian girl there. Tried to boardslide this long rail, made it all the way to the end and slipped out. Landed with my left leg tucked and all the inertia twisted it sideways, dislocated it, then it popped back into place. :S

After all that, I find out she's there with her boyfriend :3 Stupid wench. So it swells up for a few weeks, can't walk right for like a month. Then life goes on. Now it's four years later and I teach breakdancing, I put pressure on it in the wrong place and it dislocates extremely easily. Going out doesn't hurt too bad, but popping it back in, that hurts like hell! So hopefully this will get it fixed, doctors are saying 6 weeks on crutches, no weight bearing, 3-4 months total recovery time before I can play Basketball again :'(

How about you guys? any of you have surgery on your knees?

By the way, send me money- I prefer Paypal :-*

I had a knee scope done in April. April 11th to be exact. im still not 100%. :-\

Cant run, and have a real hard time kneeling down. stand on one leg, and do a bend at the knee kinda thing...I fall on my ass.

LONG and SLOW recovery. :'(

my moms had hers done a few years back and its never been as good as the day she went in for surgary since. I would never get anything like that done unless its your last resort.

No knee, but i used to have shoulder problems. I think I dislocated it 4-5 times in as many years. The two most memorable were hitting a tree after flying over the bars on a Honda Trail 70 at abouit 20mph, and falling down some stairs. Hasn't happened in 9 years now though, knock on wood.

I dont have the same pain that I used to have....so the real reason for the surgery, did the trick. its just a matter of time and strenthing/stretching it. The docs say I can do whatever I want on it...it just scares the ---- out of my when I put pressure on it and it hurts like :X I feel like im going to be down for the count again. -and ---- that.

At first, after the surgery the docs told me "you'll be running 100% again in 3 months" -then I just went back 2 weeks ago "ahh...yeah....i dont know who told you 3 months...i wouldnt even think about 100% until december" -go figure.

Lots of biking/swimming/elepitical and I will be back.

I was washing my car in 3 days though. :D :P

Re: Knee surgery this coming Tuesday.

Haven't had any knee surgeries yet, but the doc tells me they are inevitably in the future for me. The cartilage on the backs of my knee caps is allready ------- chewed up cause my knee caps don't "track properly" when I bend my knees. I have also torn the cartilage in both my wrists (TFCC is similar to the meniscus in the knees) and they may eventually require surgey. I have a herniated disc in my neck and a couple of other minor joint problems. Some recent bloodwork showed that I am anemic and there is a possability that I have colon cancer. I go this Friday for testing. I'm 35 and a ------- mess :S I would trade for an occasional trick knee anyday. :-\

my knee wasnt tracking right and I had a large build-up of Plica in my knee. Pictures are worth 1000 words and the pics from that scope was :7

Thanks Chad...can't say that I am not concerned about it, but it is what it is. I have thought about rescheduling my appt. there are import drags at Norwalk on Friday and I would like to go. I think my wife would kill me though. I think the there is a DSM shootout on Sunday though, so maybe I can go check that out instead. Maybe I will be able to get some pics of my insides to post up :P

You're obviously not trying hard enough. :P

My attitude for the longest time including skateboarding, bike riding, ect. was that if you're not falling then you aren't pushing yourself enough, it was all about willpower to see if I could overcome the pain and fear to accomplish something. Served me well for a long time- sure toughened up my pain tolerance and my character. But my body is paying for that attitude now. I don't want to be 30 and in a wheelchair. :'(

I know what you mean about following the doctor's advice on the recovery, I'm going to do exactly what they say and work as hard as I can in physical therapy, apparently there's quite a bit of pain in PS, so I'm going to get to exercise my pain tolerance levels again. >:D

9- years of skateboarding is not recommended. Although, and I'm not sure if anyone else ever felt this way. But if I ever had a hard day at work or I felt like i wanted to beat the crap out of someone, I'd just go skate as hard as I could, and inevitably I'd hit the ground hard. There's nothing like taking a 6' drop to concrete on your chest to take the fight outta ya. ;D

to me it was good therapy, anyone else feel that way?

Quick run through of my injuries while skating:

Tore tendons in both ankles, both rolled 20+ times
Torn Meniscus in left knee
Bruised patella in right knee
Broken cartilege in right hip
strained stomach muscles
fractured collarbone
fractured left forearm
Broken left hand
6-stiches in my chin, Kinda neat seeing my jawbone
3 concussions- 2 of those were with a helmet, the last one I cracked it right in half.

Regardless of all these injuries, I was actually pretty damn good. But it got to a point where to take the next step, I'd have to start doing things that would seriously injure me. i was getting too responsible to do that, and I can't not progress in something, so I had to walk away. Been about 3 years now and I can't believe some of the crap I used to try.

to ZC4ME- That sucks man, I'm very grateful that I have a body that actually heals itself very well. however the knees just don't heal themselves. Not well anyway. I hope the results come back negative on the colon cancer.

I tore mine, limped on and off for a year, finally rested it enough (hard to do when hyperactive) and built up enough supporting muscle. Been fine for almost two years now, I run up and down stairs, jump off things, generally still act like a teenager. Solid.

Re: Knee surgery this coming Tuesday.

Well that's the thing, the knee still works just fine and I can do most things. But I'm sick of it aching so bad after 2hrs of basketball. And my breakdancing really suffers because I can't put too much pressure solely on that knee when bent or it dislocates.

I'm not a fan of uncertainty. I just want it fixed. Plus I've got medical insurance right now, so what better time to get it done.

Ya know, I am not all that worried about it, maybe I should be, I dunno. The part that sucks is, all the joint problems I have had which at times has made it really hard for me to even get around and my ortho doc finally sends me to a rheumatologist (arthitis doctor). He does blood work and as he is telling me he is seeing two different kinds of arthritis developing and he can make me feel better, BUT he see's something else that concerns him and tells me about needing to go get tested for the colon cancer. So he gives me a bunch of pills that are making my joints feel better, not great but better and if I get word that I do have some kind of cancer, i am gonna be pissed cause I am sure the treatment will make me feel like ---- again. ------- doctors, LOL.

never had that problem myself, but i've taken care of a ton of people after they had the surgery. pain control and physical therapy = good results. good luck man!

Re: Knee surgery this coming Tuesday.

Well I just got back from the Doctor's office for a physical before the surgery and it looks like we're good to go. He showed me some more images from the MRI and I have to say that machine is worth every damn penny they charge for it. it had the neatest slides I've ever seen. It even had sections where, imagine they chopped up your leg like slices of bread then you can look at each individual slice! crazy.
You could clearly see the tear in the images, it's on the inside c-section of my knee. They won't know whether they can repair it or just have to clip it off until they get in there.

They said they can either put me to sleep during the surgery, or give me a spinal injection and let me watch. I think I'm going to sleep- I'm too much of a pansy to watch medical stuff, I could never be a doctor.

I work in the medical field. Ask your doctor for a Prescription for a ROLLER-AID. its alot better then crutches.

Eh, my mom was diagnosed Monday with Leukemia Generica. Apparently, she gets to take pills that cure the symptooms for the next 10-15 *years* and if it's not gone by then she starts chemo. I'm not even remotely bothered by it? The way Momma put it is that she's been afraid of Alzheimer's for a while now (people get it in my family despite intelligent people being less prone to it) and frankly would rather die of cancer; a ------- decade and a half from now. I agree with her. When my dad died, statistics placed her life expectancy at 72... now its up to 73... she looks at it as cancer giving her an extra year - can't say I don't agree.

Not that my best hopes and wishes aren't with you; fucked up ---- happens to good people, but you're young and strong so even if it is a bad form of cancer you have a good fight in you. (Yes, I know you are late 30s) I have to say I'm not worried about you; you're HMT, a nig nog, and you don't take ---- from anybody or anything.

If it's anything like a epidural, like they give women during childbirth, take the general. Most women who have a spike shoved in their spine have back problems the rest of their life, ---- that.

My pops had knee surgery. He just had the local, and it maks recovery time much quicker to not have to deal with the after affects of general anesteshia
