This weekend we had a local dyno day from a local website... http://www.idahostreetracing.com i decided to roll down and see what the beast could put down, as i have never had it on the dyno with high boost. i only got 3 runs and no tuning was involved because of the time crunch...pretty much strap it down and see what it runs...i was thinking prolly 350+ but then this came up
http://img48.imageshack.us/img48/3751/405whpdynous1.jpg

just for reference my setup is this
stock z6 head
stock z6 intake manifold
y8 block with VITARA's and eagle rods, other wise stock
drag manifold
t3/t4 57 trim .60/.63 about 25psi
3" open downpipe
street tuned on cromePro by me O0

im extremely stoked on these numbers, i never expected it to be over 400whp...it suprised the hell out of me because im still on teh stock head and stock intake manifold...oh and the shitty drag manifold, cant believe i got 400 hp out of that too!!! and for the haters these vitaras ROCK! FJT informed me that this IS a new record for the most horespower made on these pistons...and for those that say it wont last....its been boosted and running 20+psi daily for the last 9 months allready... :S :6

obviously you have stock sleeves, but are you running a block gaurd or filler or anything at all? stock HG or steel? what kind of c/r is it at with the vitaras and y8/z6 combo? and congrats on the power, that is ------- amazing... :6

yea stock sleeves...only mods to the engine at all are arp studs, vitaras and eagle rods :S

The only bad thing is you have about a 1,000 rpm (6-7k) powerband lol... That thing is going to drop out of boost every shift even if you rev the piss out of it. Your going to need some serious head work, intake, and cam setup. Nice job on the 400whp mark though, with a very basic setup.

p.s. vitara's are gay... :P

people keep saying that but the thing is i make 7psi by 3500, on my datalogs from cromepro at the track i NEVER drop below 18psi the entire run. i drop to 5k and rev to 7500 at the track (z6 tranny with lsd) so im only using 2500 worth of rpms at teh track anyways. the dyno run is decieving, especially cause i didnt hit full throttle util about 4500 or so...this was my 1st time ever on a dyno (i really dont need a dyno to tell me how much power i have, if it runs the numbers at the track thats all i need) so i didnt know wtf was going on lol

and pat its ok im just flipping you ----...you were after all, my inspiration to build a d :6

Re: Joined the 400hp SOHC club...on vitaras!!

Yeah it's cool man, still probably a lot of fun to drive and I bet when boost kicks in it feels really nice. With some headwork that thing will rip, a gt30r would be nice too and spool way faster. Get some good times in and let us know, should be 11's no problem on slicks. Look into ZC 3,4,5 gears for your tranny if you want to make shifting shorter (freeway will suck though lol).

I got my car back to being my daily driver finally, still feels slow as piss. :( I need a built 2.0L b-series turbo setup now!

Badass man we are going for 350 on a stock head and intake d15b with pretty much the exabt same setup but with nippon racing ebay pistons on 20 pounds. We got 278 out of 14 tuned on neptune by jason herrara, so hopefully ill join the club with you

haha stay with teh d man!! your the og when it comes to the single slam, trust me 400hp can be had cheap and easy!!

btw i have allready run 11's with it O0
11.98 @ 118 (track was real hot that day too...150+ track temps 145+ intake temps and a corrected alltitude of 7500ft above sea level :S ) on 22x8x15's that was with a bad boost leak that ive been tracking FOREVER. i finnaly found it the day before the dyno, it was a couple pin holes in my charge pipes weld....fixed it (along wiht a leaky coupler) and this car has never run so good before....3rd and 4th gear are white nuckle thats for damn sure!

im confident this car will go at least 11.3's at 123+ i just bought bigger slicks 23x8.5x15's and i cant wait to get back to teh track

Believe me I really wanted to stay d-series, but for the goals I have going with a b-series will be easier and cheaper. The problem with going d-series is the head will need serious money invested into it, plus getting a big turbo to spool fast and have a good powerband won't be as easy, I also didn't want to deal with head lifting issues, the power on pump gas won't be as much on the d-series either.

Dynojet is a non-loading dyno. Boost is load dependent.

i run 20 psi on 93 pump with no signs of detonation. even in this summer heat! i agree the head needs some work but you dont feel it on the street...its not as pronounced as say an ls motor, where power just dies off....and i havent had a single issue with headlifting...maybe i have a freak motor or soemthing cause i dont experience any of the issues that other d-series owners do....maybe its my attention to details or my tuning...not sure. :S

Damn.

I bought some Vitaras about three years ago when FJT first started selling them, then sold them a year and a half ago...

I should have waited until after your dyno plot and sold them for $300. lol

Nice numbers. I didn't think it was possible on vitaras.

How long do you guys think this setup will last without a blockguard or filler? I aint knocking the setup, I love it and wow, congrats on the 400HP, the reason I ask is I plan around 300HP on my B16 with the only mods being ARP head studs, nippon racing pistons (similar to vitara material) and Thicker cometic head gasket, I want to break in to 12's but also want to have a reliable daily driver.

It should last a long time if it's tuned well. Stock sleeves can handle a lot of power. Block guards are crap and don't do ---- anyways.

Your setup should be fine. I ran 12's in my stock d-series coupe, so I would expect 11's with a b-series turbo setup.

Re: Joined the 400hp SOHC club...on vitaras!!

thanks guys!

i do have a ported and polished head in my garage...im set on a zex cam, and prolly the edelbrock intake manifold...im still undecided on that...i would like to hit 450hp, i think its possible...

this setup has also been running at over 20+ for over 9 months now!! i used to drive it daily until i bought an accord about 2 months ago...so yes its uber reliable, and has barely any issues just normal maintanence you would expect from a build like this....my timing is set at 6 degrees and i street tuned that with a homemade set of det cans so im pretty sure that my tune is on the conservative side and that is to ensure this motor stays around for a while...

stock sleeves seem fine to me ive seen over 500 made on d-series sleeves...there are alot of other weaker components in a d motor than the sleeves.

Nasty D, serious props.

Dynojunk operates by seeing how quickly engine can accelerate against a load. It is not able to vary load or hold engine @ fixed rpm aka "loading dyno" and that makes it useless to tune part throttle. You still spool on a Dynojunk just fine.

oh ok i see what your saying there...now since i waited until like 4500 to hit full throttle on the dyno that would most likely affect my spool time and also where i made peak power on the chart, am i correct in saying that? on the street if i punch it from say 2k i usually get 7lbs by 3500 and full boost by just over 5k but thats not what it shows on the chart and thats why im catching alot of flak about it only have a 1k powerband....i guess i should have got on it early to see the full power band...am i correct in this thinking? like i said...dyno n00b.

man, thats awsome. Im tryin to convince a local guy to keep his D in his AWD integra. Hell, even if 400 is a rare case, it sure does mean that over 325 should be pretty easy to obtain.

Maybe a missed it but what turbo are you running?
