JIC magic FLT-a2 coilovers for $500?

Yay or nay.

Guy is delivering them personally for an additional $50.

Should i go for it?

These retail $1900 brand new.

The lower mounts are fully adjustable so i can slam the piss out of my rx7 without comprimizing suspension travel.....

Nay, asians don't know how to valve their shocks correctly. All that JIC stuff is just bandwagon crap that was made in chna for $9, worth $0.50 due to poor design, and selling for $1900 to suckers.

http://farnorthracing.com/autocross_secrets6.html

Get a set of Bilsteins, GC coilovers, and be done with it.

I hate coilover sleeves.

Have any proof to back your claims?

Get the ---- over it, because there's nothing wrong with them.

FTR, jic is made in japan.

Re: JIC magic FLT-a2 coilovers for $500?

Yeah, well the thing is i didn't ask for alternative suggestions.

I asked if i should pay $500 for these coilovers.

My stock springs are saggy as ---- and i'm pretty sure i've lost quite a bit of oil from my stock shocks. It rides like a lexus....

Keep in mind that i'm doing my suspension for drifting. Front and rear lower braces, front upper triangle brace...etc. I want to put a full cage in but i wont be able to afford tubing for a while....

The 240 and rx7 crowd speaks highly of these coils. I've never heard anything bad about them. I just figured i'd see what others thought.

He told you no, gave you a reason then linked you to relevant information that would give you an understanding as to why you shouldn't buy something like that. If you would just read it, then you'd understand where he's coming from.

Buying shocks and getting them properly valved and gassed > buying ricer super adjustable bullshit.

Re: JIC magic FLT-a2 coilovers for $500?

Those things look pretty well used. I would say try $400. I paid $500 for my Teins with HKS springs and Cusco camber plates. Stiff. Is that a daily? I daily mine but I don't give a ---- about ride "quality". My S13 is for drifting too. No power steering, stiff suspension and welded diff on the street all day.

Did he say if they are blown?

By the way JIC Magic is high quality not ching chong ricer ----

Re: JIC magic FLT-a2 coilovers for $500?

JIC is just as crappy as Tien, n00b.

Re: JIC magic FLT-a2 coilovers for $500?

Yeah whatever opinions are like assholes...... I have Konis and Ground Controls on my Honda. They're right for what I designed the car for. Teins on my drift car, perfect for that. I've been through too many turbo builds, track days, tuning events and training classes to care what you think.

Tom-Guy 01-26-2009 03:38 PM

Re: JIC magic FLT-a2 coilovers for $500?

Cool, because the dude I linked to has dyno'd as many shocks as I have cars and I can guaranteed he's be as unimpressed with your suspension setups as I am with your turbo builds.

Welcome to being a n00b who can't quantify or analyze the datum involved in making a logic-based decision arguing with an old man with experience and tools who can.

If you would read the link, rather than mouthing off, you'd know what he's talking about. Support your statements with relevant information, xor don't bother arguing.

Not arguing it's not even that serious. But I have tools and experience too oh yeah and my own shop.

Fine I'll read it now.

Having tools, experience and a shop are not a valid premises as to why your opinion is true. Business is serious on hmt. Very serious.

I'm working right now and doing axiomatic logic while browsing HMT. I only flip on the weekends, sir.

Tein and Jic for the most part are ----, i got given a set of those exact coilovers for my WRX for cheap. Figured ---- it, they look decent and its a nice discount. They road like ----, never stopped bounching, the ------- adjustment thing seized and the valving was garbage.

GC and koni ---- the rest its not worth the money

I'll check em out when he brings them down. I may offer less.

However if they are blown which he insists they are not:

http://www.jic-magic.com/MaintenanceInfo.aspx

Not bad pricing AND they do CUSTOM VALVING.

$600 to rebuild them and $400 to valve them is not a bad price? :l

Re: JIC magic FLT-a2 coilovers for $500?

Well ---- it. If i get them and they suck, i'll post it and a picture of my face so JD can photoshop a dick in my mouth and hopefully it'll make front page.

That's the deal. I dont care.

My shock/spring combo on my dsm felt solid. Non adjust GR-2 style dampers with Progress springs....

I'm just doing a little auto x (maybe not on a welded diff but when i get around to rebuilding my lsd), daily driving and parking lot/local event swangin'.

I probably dont need custom valving. Just a rebuild if i have a blown shock or two. No big. Like i said, i'm going to check em out before i hand over the cash and let him ride off into the sunset. He's bringing them to me personally some time this week. He's local (well, if you count being an hour away local) and seems legit.

We have arguments about jap coilovers and good dampers like ohlins/bilstein/koni on the rx7 forum all the time. Alot of guys have these coilovers and love them. I haven't heard anything bad about them. Just people bitching that they dont go as low as they'd like.

Could be worse. Could be ksport or godspeed coilovers or no name coilover sleeves on stock blown dampers. I'm a cheap fucker but i'm not going to let myself get hosed. If i'm weary about them after holding them in my hands and inspecting them, i'll give him $50 for his troubles and send him packing with his coilovers.

he wants them so he can show off to his friends and go adjust knobs before the street races, and then adjust them again for the ride home.

Exactly. I street race....... ::) For monies.

"lets say we kick it a nickle?"

Ever sit at the computer desk and realize you should have showered first because your shoes stink so ------- much? Rode my bike all ------- day, skated for a bit, jumped around like an idiot, sat on my ass and played call of duty 4 on 360, then played skate........got rained on when we unloaded my bike out of my buddies car.... My feet ------- stink. I'll shower in the morning. I wont be able to smell them in my sleep. :y

Your logic is flawed. The average person is a retard who ranks parts by whether or not they are shiny, and couldn't quantify what good dampening is or isn't.

I posted a link to a guy that knows as much about suspension as I do about electronics and tuning. If you can't read and understand what he said about winning his SCCA class at the national level *despite* his suspension, and the significant gains he obtained off of correct dampening on an already cracked out handling combo, then I can't help you. No one can.

If you get these JIC pieces of ----, I don't want a picture of your face to shoop or anything like that. I just want you to make a different thread about them so this one stops popping in my watched topics list, and I can spend my time on someone who appreciates really ------- good info.

Re: JIC magic FLT-a2 coilovers for $500?

Guy just left.

I have my coilovers now ;D

I love getting parts in person. Lets you know a good bit of whether or not the seller was full of ----. I didn't even open up my wallet until we talked for about 30 minutes. Guy is legit. I've yet to personally meet a true rx7 owner i didn't like/trust. Wish i could say the same about the dsm/honda crowd.

They look nice, aren't leaky, springs dont have a spot of rust on them, shafts aren't bent (i dont see how they would be, they're thick as ----), front mounts aren't bent, cracked or rusted. They're in fair condition. I've bought worse. GR-2's and Progress lowering springs for $200ish shipped. Rode like crap. I blame it on bump steer and the lack of power steering though....
