Jago's latest build

11 Attachment(s)
Pretty standard TT/Vitara setup on a z6. I'm currently running a .48/.60 T-bird T3 and am going to have some fun with it for a bit before I get a bigger turbo and intercooler. I haven't tuned it yet but I'm only shooting for 300 whp, I'm sure I'll up the boost at some point and test it's limits since I have a spare block now.

Specs:

Z6 block/y5 vtec-e head
75mm Vitara pistons
OEM main/rod bearings
TT rods (one rod needed machining to fit the wrist pin)
TT 660cc injectors
Stealthmode oil lines/firewall kit
Supposed prototype Blur manifold, feels pretty ------ solid
TiAl 38mm wastegate
JRC 6" intercooler (for now)
Walbro 255lph LP in-tank pump
.48/.60 60 trim T3
Greddy Profec Type S EBC
1G DSM BOV
2.5" charge piping, downpipe, and exhaust. Exhaust consists of a 2' long cherry bomb for a resonator and a generic turbo muffler.

Obligatory rod/piston shot

Attachment 22613

Block notched

Attachment 22614

I got shiny instead of flat aluminum engine paint on accident and just said ---- it. My block is mexichromed out :8

Attachment 22615

Boost, oil pressure, boost control

Attachment 22616

The closest button to the shifter is hooked up to the EBC to switch between high and low boost settings. Right before I shift into 3rd I hit it with the heel of my hand to switch to high boost. Lower knob is the gain control for the sub amp.

Attachment 22617

I knew my intercooler piping had begun to rust even after I painted it, it's mild steel and has been through 2 Wisconsin winters. I did NOT know that it was all rusted on the inside, maybe even worse than the outside. It ran great and I had no idea it was this bad; glad I saw it before my engine ingested rust flakes.

Attachment 22618

Attachment 22619

So I picked up an eBay aluminum piping kit for $100 shipped, not a bad deal. ---- some rust.

Attachment 22620

Al tubing installed, I reused the 45 off the throttle body with the bov flange on it because I'm lazy :P

Attachment 22621

And a little before and after shot

Attachment 22622

I haven't driven it enough yet to tell, haven't had time to fully tune it yet.

When did you swap from the old b7 to the z6? I'm running a similar setup, I make it a weekend ritual to re-weld that manifold, but it seems to be holding up fine for the last 5 or 6 weeks....maybe its had enough welding and will co-operate now.

HMTguy 11-19-2007 11:25 PM

Re: Jago's latest build

I swapped out the b7 a little over 2 years ago

i was told by many people that maxed out that turbo will only do 280hp.

i got the same turbo thats the only reason i've looked into it

Re: Jago's latest build

It will do 300+

Now doing 300 efficiently, that's a different story.

Either you don't have the correct compressor map, or you don't know how to read one. It can produce roughly 325 hp at 65% efficiency.

I never completed that build but started a ITR block build when all of my ---- got stolen. Now ive got fresh insurance money i dont know what to do with. Ive got a bare itr block and crank, ls block and crank, itr tranny, and gsr head. I havent decided which way to go yet. As for my weldings skills...i still suck but i have a miller 135 mig with gas and a big window elite helmet you are free to use any time.

I am actually back in Platteville finishing up my degree. Fondy was fun but it got boring after a while. It was nice to get out of the sausagefest at Platteville for a while though.

Re: Jago's latest build

Nice jago, my build is pretty similar

Specs:

Z6 block/y8 VTAK head
75mm SRP Pistons
OEM main/rod bearings
TT rods
DSM 450s
Stealthmode oil lines
HF mani
Internal wg mbc'ed
CDM 6" intercooler (for now)
EVO fuel pump (hope it's sufficient, should be)
.48/.60 60 trim T3
CDM MBC
Knockoff BOV
2.5" charge piping, downpipe, and exhaust.

I'm also aiming for 300whp in my CRX, just not sure if the mani/turbo will get me there :-\

Looking forward to vids :-D

HMTguy 11-20-2007 02:56 AM

Re: Jago's latest build

The manifold and turbo are good to 300 hp for your setup :) It's just not done often, especially on an hf.

Sweet build Jon. Maybe if I can get this teg off my buddy I can maybe finally see what boost tastes like for my own vehicle...

Depends on the dyno. For a Dynojet, you can get 270-280 out of a .50 T3, and the all time record for .60 T3 I've heard is 330 off an ITR at 18 psi but they do clip 300 on D16 every now and again.

Given the build, and the sweet balla bling manifold, I'd go T04E compressor with a stage 3 exhaust wheel. :y

Re: Jago's latest build

Nice to see your still representing my old engine and keeping vtec-e head alive. Too bad you didn't keep valve cover mexicaligold. Hell it'd be so mexified the ins would deport your car. Roller rockerz niggaz! :6
