Default I've seen it all now.

SSAC Substandard T70 on H22 with S2S2 cams, TT rods and Mahle drop ins; 332 wtq @ 5200 and 375 whp @ 6700 on 16 psi with a stock ITR fuel pump, stock pressure, 10 gauge wiring.

She started leaning at 6500, boost fell to 10 psi immediately at 7000, both put a damper on revving her out to 8500. Come to find out the compressor nut had fallen off and the inducer fins looked like a serrated steak knife; I could have stuck a finger past them and touched the inside of the compressor scroll exit. Wacky thing is, the car still spooled and created pretty good power although it was flat as a strap 5500+ right up until the damaged compressor wheel ran out of flow and boost dropped off.

edit: Dynojet 248C numbers, FTW!

Yeah, this is the third one that's gone on this particular car. I've seen one go 8K... all the others die within 250 miles.

A local shop to me had a garrett that had the nut come off also. Garrett is bitching about replacing it. lol.

Thank god I got the T4 60-1 instead of the T70 I was checking out. :P So is there anything preventative maintanence that can be done before spooling one of these up?

I suggest you preventatively round file the T70's, it'll save you a lot of time and effort in the future.

Nobody noticed this is on a stock fuel pump, all that surprises you guys is that an SSAC turbo failled?

i have the T70 on my mustang and its doesnt have a problem and its been there for a couple thousand miles.

might make a difference on how fast the turbo is spinning (eg making 16psi vs 8psi)

So I'm flowing 375 whp worth of turbo rpm, and you aren't, is the reason why it came apart? You mean to tell me Mustangs run 9 second 1/4 miles off sub-375 whp??

Haha.

Actually, the compressor nut is a classic problem with these piles of ----. The first turbo died at 25 miles from just that, this one shredded the compressor fins because the nut kept bouncing around in the airfilter and trying to suck itself through. Harry at MR2GURU said he's seen three of them lose a nut, too. Wes' lasted 8K miles running 14 psi low boost and 22 psi high boost, maybe the 5 year old kid that tightens the comp nuts on the T70 was sick the day Wes' turbo came along the assembly line and a burly 8 year old kid cranked on it, huh?
