IQ test?

Has anyone taken a legit iq test? I'm just curious to see how well I can do on one. When you do a google search a bunch come up that seem like they're real free iq tests, but i did like 4 of them and every damn one wants a bunch of private info or money at the end to "get your results" ....I just want to take a legit one thats actually free and will give me the results without all that BS. ::) any ideas?

IQ tests in general are bs imho. they just measure school-ability. high iq != intelligence

IQ testing is not likely a part of any public school's mainstream testing. Mine had to be requested, and then my mom paid for an independent one when the school system provided one missing whole subtests.

Yes and no. IQ testing shows cognitive potential, but intelligence is the development and application of your potentials. It's just like most people are lazy at work and don't any harder than they need to in order to get by, so other people get the promotions and make the big bucks.

I have never taken one could careless but I have seen alot of people I went to school with claiming they scored some super high scores yet they would use my notes, papers etc and I was a sub par student at best who enjoyed the price is right and bong rips . My guess is most of the tests are bullshit and especially the interweb ones

Most people lie.

I think I've dropped my IQ all of once in 12 years of being a dirty interweb -----. As a tool for self-knowledge so you develop your personal strengths it's largely irrelevant to any topic of discussion, unless you want to brag on yourself to a bunch of people who didn't like you anyway before you started bragging.

i was tested multiple times since grade school. median score is 129. i was in the 97th to 99th percentile throughout highschool in sat testing (1440 iirc, i have to look it up), took the john hopkins college entry exam when i was 13 and placed in the upper 57% of the lot of HS seniors. call it bragging, but i'm defending myself. sure, i come off as a dumbass, but the smartocities are always there

IQ tests are flawed in may ways. They should test a persons ability to learn but are inevitably inaccurate because the tests are based in large part on previous knowledge.

Anyways, MENSA has a decent practice test out there.

Your ability to learn is demonstrated by your amount of previous knowledge. There is an age factor, you know.

rsmith2786 01-22-2009 02:47 AM

Re: IQ test?

Incorrect. These tests are based on common areas on knowledge. Someone could have an amazing ability to learn but have applied it in an area that is untested. MENSA openly admits that the tests are flawed. What if you don't speak English as a first language? There are tons of ways in which the tests are inaccurate. They are great for people like you and me that do well in science and technology but not so great for people in other areas. I score very well on IQ tests but don't thing the tests are thorough enough. I don't think I'm a genus, im just interested in areas that happen to be on these tests.

What about a person's ability for social interaction? Doesn't that require intelligence? How is that accounted for? My social skills are like a negative 3.

IQ tests should be called knowledge tests.

my friend and i got in a fight about who had a higher IQ. so we took the test and i beat him by one point. neither of us remember the score. i know i have a high IQ, i don't need the number to brag to people.
BTW i think it was higher than 129 :-*

Re: IQ test?

I'm pretty sure any accurate IQ test has to be administered/evaluated by a psychologist

rsmith2786 01-22-2009 03:04 AM

Re: IQ test?

For MENSA it was just like taking an ACT, SAT, or anything like that. There were staff but i don't think any were psychologists. They did say it would be graded under the "supervision" of a psychologist though.

yup, pretty much hit the nail on the head. phsych verifies the method uses and is there when the grading takes place

You bomb the vocabulary subtest, but that doesn't hurt your ability to play with funny blocks (17) or put pictures in the correct order (6) or, in fact, a good two thirds of the test.

It has to do with giving a ---- about what strangers think, and nothing to do with intelligence.

That's debatable. Ive read papers in the field of epistemology that would suggest otherwise, and have some pretty compelling theories.

Re: IQ test?

In relevance to the subject, I think everyone needs to understand the difference between ratio IQ's and Deviation IQ's.

This explains it simply.
http://www.geocities.com/ultrahiiq/Deviation_IQs.html

Basically, you can score a 160+ ratio IQ as a child, but your adult deviation IQ would be lower.

Having a high IQ means little if you dont perform to your fullest potential. Myself being a prime example of this. :P

Re: IQ test?

good info fellas, I didn't really want to take one so I could brag if I got a high score, I realize it measures your ability to learn and this is why I want to take it. I have been a part time college student for a couple years lingering in the lower level classes, and I have done well in them, But I find myself afraid to commit to a major or to full time study for some reason. Originally I knew I wanted to be either an electrical or mechanical engineering major, but my fear of higher level math ie: calculus has kinda ruled that out for me, looking into biochemistry now.....at any rate I wanted to see how I could do on a REAL iq test, for some reason I feel if I do well it will help me make that leap into full time study and picking a major so I can get the ---- on with life, at 26 years old I feel like it's time for me to decide what I'm gonna do with school.

Eh. I wouldnt bother if you havent taken it already. You will probably just be dissappointed. Not saying you arent bright, I dont know you. But there is a reason the "average" IQ is in the 90-110 range (deviation).

Hard work and even basic average intelligence can succeed in just about any endevor, Again having the highest intelligence does not predict success.
There is the Intellegince Quotient and then there is the Emotional Quoteint. Far too often the two are not related nor do they go together. Sort of like finding a woman with everything going for her.Great tits doesn't always go with a great ass. Great body is sometimes a single or even double bagger. Fantastic body AND face could be the evil witch from hell.
I.Q. tests that are properly administered always have a time factor to properly asses mental accuity.
You can get several books full of examples of the type of tests or questions that you would expect in the Mensa prescreen test.Oddly the best are produced by Mensa, and would be available at Chapters.
I have found that there is no advantage to declare ones I.Q. to those that you come into contact with at work or in life as people tend to judge your performance and have unrealistic expectations. Everyone has off periods and will make mistakes resulting in a harsh backlash from those who originally were made to feel inferior. Simply....I never talk like this at work!

This one works and I have took a test there. Post your results here after taking it. You can pay for detailed results or you just give them your email and get the score only. Site is clean with no spam bullshit.

My 7th grader brother has scored a 90 on it. I hope he's normal.

too bad you didn't know what grade level the iq test was aimed at. i'd say around 9th grade, there is nothing of challenge for a standard schooled or a AP schooled student.

I know the test was a little easy but it's the best one you can get for free with out the spam bullshit. You took another test on purpose just to get a 78? I don't think it's possible to get anything lower than 60 because you wouldn't be smart enough to use a ------- computer.
